If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc
Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children.
If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

Sonneland is on a hill. There is no escaping the fact that if you want to go to the beach, you will have to either catch the courtesy bus which runs frequently and is free, or walk (45 mins) or get a taxi (3.50 euros). The Faro 2 shopping centre is walkable and houses plenty of eating places and shops. Alternatively there are plenty of other shopping centres. Visit the Cita centre or the Yumbo centre for a different experience.

The Dunas Mirador is a ten minute bus drive from the beach (free buses provided from hotel). It is located a little way 'out of things' but there is a supermarket round the corner and one or two shops. There is also a place called Paddy's Bar which we didn't visit, but heard it has an excellent reputation.
From where the bus stops at the beach, there is a few minutes walk where there are plenty of sunbeds available and ice cream and drinks kiosks. If you walk further along the beach, there are sand dunes which are quite peaceful and secluded, so don't be surprised to see the occasional naturist pass by!

We couldn't wait to get home!! The best thing about this resort is the camel rides and the sand dunes. If you want some music and entertainment that's up to date don't go to Gran Canaria! It is pretty in places and the taxis are cheap. Beware of dodgy electricals for sale in Playa de Ingles, don't bother with the Perla Canaria place, the beach at Maspalomas is far superior to the windy beach at Playa.
The Yumbo centre was entertaining, Kasbah centre is a dump. Fabulous food and service at the El Gaucho restaurant in Kasbah though. Best thing to do is to find yourself a secluded part of the sand dunes and enjoy the sunshine, peace and quiet!
However, if you paid for the holiday and gave me the spending money I wouldn't go back to Gran Canaria in a million years.

Maspalomas is ok. Rather quiet, but then the brochures tell you that. The dunes are an eye opener but definitely not the place for children.
There is much gay activity here, and whilst it does not pose a problem for myself, I would not like children to be exposed to it.
The beach is clean, and there are plenty of sunbeds. The first part is heterosexual and ideal for families, whilst a brief walk along the sea brings you to the nudist area.
I found the resort clean, the newness of Maspalomas front adds that 'niceness'
I would return but would stop in apartments rather than the hotel we chose.
Night-time became a bit tedious as there is very little to do...A visit to Playa del Ingles was our norm (dare I mention the 'Yumbo'?)
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you want peace and quiet. If you want karaoke, English pubs and people watching...Then this place aint for you.

Situated at Meloneras, approx 25 minutes walk from Fara Maspalomas. Only a handful of restaurants nearby but many in Maspalomas and Les Ingles.

The resort was lovely and clean. There are plenty of things to do, there is Aqualand, Polmitos Part which is like a small zoo, with gorge animals, birds, butterflies and a exotic gardens. There is also Holiday World which has a big wheel, roller coaster, bowling alley and loads of arcades, and lots of little stalls.
There were lots of shopping centers but the all sold the same things. Bit of advise though "ALWAYS HAGGLE" I got a few bargins ! Very cheap to, there is the Kasbah, and one right across from it and there is the San Agustan one which is lovely ! There are a few near the beach to with lovely cafe's etc.......
I will defo be going back to Gran Canaria, It's my number one holiday destination !!!

The place was clean, safe for the kids, pool was nice and the landscaping around the pool etc was fine.
We did`nt rate the entertainment much, but this depends on how busy and how many people are willing to participate in the fun. Adios.

The hotel grounds lead down to a promenade (no road) above a rocky coast. Shopping center 300 yards, extensive sandy beach and sanddunes at Maspalomas gentle 800 yard stroll.
Airport transfer approx 30 mins.

The resort was very clean. We only saw one cockroach by the side of a road dead!
Faro main town was beautiful and walking along the beach after a superb meal was bliss!
