Location
We stayed for two weeks in a self-catering apartment. The rooms are large and spacious, basic but adequately furnished, with a kitchenette comprising full cooker, two ring electric hob, full fridge, kettle toaster plus pots/pans cutlery. The large lounge/diner had a sofa bed and patio doors leading onto balcony with table and chairs. The bedroom was also large with a safe in the double wardrobe. Safe costs 10 Euro per week. The bedroom also had a door leading out onto the balcony. The only negative point was that there was no hairdryer, so you need to take your own!
The rooms were cleaned 5/7 days. The grounds had a pretty garden which were kept immaculately.
The pool area was attractive, and again, kept immaculately clean. There is a snack bar by the pool. The pools were freezing! I think the hotel has been investing recently in new sun loungers- there were plenty of sun beds to go around- but they could do with a few more parasols.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we went self catering we did eat in the restaurant a couple of times for 10 Euro for a three course buffet. The food was usual buffet fare and to be honest you are much better off eating out in one of the many local restaurants right on your doorstep.
We must mention the Casa Blanca in the square outside the front door of the hotel as one of our favouites. The hotel has a programme of entertainment day and evening. Day activities included shuffleboard, boules, bingo etc- not our cup of tea, but there's no obligation to join in.
Evening entertainment was usual hotel entertainment, acrobatics, flamenco show, various singers. If we weren't keen on what was on offer, we popped into other hotels instead.
We travelled with the First Choice group, and were impressed that they provided us with a free basic starter pack of tea, coffee, bread, sugar, jam, mineral water, milk, fruit juice, margarine even though we hadn't booked one.
The hotel also has its own little supermarket just outside the front door- useful, but there are plenty of Spar or Netto supermarkets within a 5 minute stroll.
Overall a lovely little hotel that felt like a quiet peaceful retreat.

The food was OK, I couldn't eat much of it as I have alot of allergies, but my boyfriend like it and there was always quite a few different dishes. Although they were all very similar each night; chips, fish, pasta, some types of vegetables, some sort of meat and garlic bread most night. They also had choices of cold meats and salads, and breads and cheese. The food wasn't labeled that well, so it may have been difficult for vegetarians to decide what they could and couldn't eat. Breakfast was good, there was alot of selection here, full english, continental, pasteries, bread, they even had a diet corner which I thought was good, with skimmed milk, granary bread, sugar free jams etc. They had a toaster and a microwave so you could heat up anything that was't that hot. I think being all inclusive looked good as throughout the day you could help yourself to drinks, ice creams, cakes etc, and it wouldn't have been that much more expensive than half board.
The hotel itself was very clean. Our apartment was cleaned 5 days out of 7, and you could have clean towels everyday if you wanted. Every morning there were people cleaning the pool area so this never got dirty. The apartment had everything you needed; frige, oven, hobs, kettle, toaster, huge bedroom with massive wardrobe, tv, bathroom, with bath and shower, dining table and sofas and a balcony with table and chairs. We had a sea view from our balcony, and it seemed like most of the rooms either had a sea view, or pool view. Our bacony was in the sun all day so you could sunbathe out there if you didn't want to leave the apartment.
There were 3 pools here with lots of sunbeds around them, never a problem getting sunbeds whatever time you went down to the pool, and very few people reserved them with towels as the hotel has a policy that you aren't allowed to. 2 of the pools were freezing,a lthough some people did brave them on occasion. The other pool was heated, well they said it was heated, it was slightlly warmer than the others, but by no means warm. However on hot days it was nice to cool off in here and once you got in it wasn't that bad! It was also nice sitting by the pool as the hotel is quite sheltered from the wind, so while on the beach you feel quite cold in the wind by the pool you don't have this problem.
The staff at the hotel were all really friendly. The entertainment team were great! I never thought I would write that as generally on holidays I try to avoid hotel entertainment as it's not really my thing. However they convinced me to join in with a few games, they were free and the winners were always given a cocktail, or a bottle of wine. Although the entertainment staff would come up to you around the pool and ask you to take part in various games, if you really didn't want to they would leave you alone.
You have to check out by noon, but if your flight isn't untill later then they have a luggage room where you can keep your stuff and you can also book a courtesy room for 30 minutes before your pick up, free of charge. They provide you with a disused apartment, shower gel and towels so you can have a shower before you leave.
This hotel really was great, and for a 3* hotel it seems much better than similar ones in the same area. I would definately come back here and would recomend it to anyone.

The hotel staff were all very helpful and if you wanted more towels or pillows they were sent straight to you. There are steps that take you straight onto the beach front promenade located next to the disco bar where the hotels own entertainment took place.
We didn't sample any of the shows ourselves but it was probably good enough if you like such things as Flamenco shows and "Mr Barcelo" contest??? Because of its proximity to the beach and all the shops/restaurants this is a great place to stay.
There are 3 pools and as many loungers as space allows - they tell you not to reserve them with towels but everyone else did so we did too! We always ate out so cannot comment on the food but others said it was very nice and certainly the pool bar was great and served snacks for those on all inclusive.
I have raved about this place to all my pals and if I go back to Lanzarote in future I wouldn't hesitate to re-book the La Galea. I would suggest requesting a sea view if you are going to stay here as some of the complex overlooks other hotels.

One bed apartment was very large, with two doors to balcony (one door didn't work but didn't find too much of a problem).
Balcony was top floor with sea and beach view to the right of a row of bars which tended to close at around midnight, so we weren't bothered by noise. In fact it was good to see what was going on.
Around the pool was clean, but busy when the weather was really good, but only strugged to get a decent spot out of the shade if we ventured around the pool after lunch. Pool was great - 7 year old enjoyed immensely.
Our son joined in the kids club as and when he felt like it and enjoyed the activities he did and made quite a few new friends. Only really good though for kids over the age of 4 because there is only one guy running it, so kids need to be quite independent.
We used the Snack bar by the pool for the odd lunch and drinks and food was good and reasonably priced. Service also very good.
Evening entertainment was good fun for kids, but adults entertainment not really up our street - flamenco dancers, juggling type acts, etc, but hotel so close to bars and restaurants, that there's plenty to do outside hotel.
Only negative comments are that many of the poolside loungers were broken and old, so could do with replacing.
Also, parts could do with a lick of paint - inside rooms/balconies and the wood on the balconies. All in all though, this is a great hotel and we would have no hesitation in visiting again.

We did refuse the first room offered with a pool view, because we did not want to be in such a noisy situation, plus it was on the same side as the jellyfish pub, and I have had previous experience of that by staying at the Galleon hotel a couple of years back, not something I want to do again.
The reception is really smart, our encounter with the staff was pleasant and efficient one, at the side of the reception there was bar looked nice didn't try it as you're spoilt for choice for drinking places in CT.
Pools looked nice, didn't go in as we prefer sea 5 mins walk away. Tried poolside bar for lunch, had drink and burger, food reasonable price and cooked properly. Didn't try restaurant, though noticed to do half board 14 euros a day, didn't think it was a bad price, but again in CT your spoilt for choice.
Rooms spacious, bathroom clean and modern good shower, bedroom plenty of hanging space, good firm comfy beds. Main room usual furniture TV only had 2 English channels on, both news. A nice separate dining table for 4 as opposed to breakfast bar, but kitchen tiny i.e. on back wall with shutters to pull across. Adequate but would have struggled with family to make several meals a day. Good excuse to eat out.
No hairdryers relied on trade winds to dry hair, which did the trick in 5 mins, good tousled look.
Towels lovely big white fluffy bath sheets, best we ever had in self catering accommodation, and beats some of the 4star hotels we've been in.

The pools are large but one is very cold and the other one is heated but is a bit chilly.
There is a poolside restaurant which is open during the day which is good.
There was some daytime activities round the pool they included shooting, water polo, table tennis. The evening entertainment was ok but limited (I think is because its quiet) so we went next door where there was alot more going on i.e kids club, bingo, and shows.(Starts at about 8PM)

It was excellent value and kids under 8 eat free.
The hotel staff were very helpful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble, it rained on our first day and into the apartment via a dodgy window. We mentioned it to our holiday rep who reported it to the hotel receptionist, we then took a walk around the resort then on our return were given a key to view another apartment. It was slightly smaller but had a wonderful sea view and no dodgy windows so we took it.
Our rep telephoned us in the apartment to make sure all was well, we were missing a kettle and bedding, it arrived in minutes.
The entertainment in the hotel was repetitve.
I would definately visit this hotel again.

The location is excellent and we had some very good meals at the Cutty Sark bar just outside of the hotel. Staff could not of been more helpful.
We did not eat in the resturant of the hotel but people who did gave glowing reports.
The entertainment staff were new to the hotel I think but were very enthuastic encoraging people to partake in the games.
The pool was heated and vewry warm once you got in. I would visit this hotel again with out any second thoughts.
The only thing that does need to be looked into and it is very minor is they could do with some new sun beds.

Not a problem as we were given full board with drinks for the remainder of the week. We were in room 318 which was excellent with nice sea views.
The apartments are very good, clean and the staff are very helpful.
