The FestaMar Apartments are on Avinguida de la Costa Brava, Estartit. These apartments are at the far end of the town from the harbour, and are about 15-20 minutes stroll away.
From FestaMar you can either walk through the largely residential area to the centre or down the 100m or so to the beach and walk along the beach path towards the harbour along the front.
Estartit itself is very clean and pleasant on the eye. It is a good balance between a modern town and traditional Spanish architecture. The people were friendly for the most part and there was a decent selection of souvenir shops and a lot of restaurants.
The restaurants were fairly quiet due to time of year and some were closed, but I imagine that would be different in high season. We found a lovely little tapas bar called Casi Casi on the front, next door to the boat trip place. The staff there were very friendly, English speaking and the food was nice. The menus were in 4 languages and had pictures of the food on offer. The tapas was well worth trying. Next door there was another restaurant offering mainly Italian cuisine, again with English speaking staff and multi lingual menus. The prices in these places were quite reasonable - between 20-30 euros for 2 two-course meals.
There were many other restaurants along the front and in the town, both a la carte and buffet style. There were too many to try and definitely something for everyone. And not one sign of McDonalds, KFC or Burger King! There are one or two takeaways - Nora Batty's Chippy [no joke] is on the corner next to FestaMar.
For food, groceries, juice, beer, wine, there is a supermarket again just around the corner from FestaMar - less than 100yds from the main entrance. It also has a bread/croissant/cake section with fresh produce every day.
Across the road there is a shop where you can buy a good selection of local and British papers i.e. The Sun, Daily Record, Daily Express etc as well as postcards, souvenirs, hats, sunscreen, inflatables, beach goods etc etc. There are a couple of other shops around there too.
Although it was nearing end of season, there was just about enough for a couple to do to fill up a week in the town, although we were lucky with weather. We did just lie out at the apartment pool a few times, but apart from that we managed to pass the time quite easily.
We had booked an excursion to Barcelona through the rep, which we later were told was cancelled [the night before it]. When we arrived she told us most of the others would not run but this would. We tried local excursion agencies but again found that their excursions were off due to lack of numbers. No joy there and it was nigh on impossible to get from Estartit to Barcelona and back by public transport in a day.
There are a variety of glass bottomed boat trips to see around the Costa Brava's rocky coastline and the beautiful coral reef and fish conservation zone around the islands just off Estartit. The resort seems very geared up towards diving, and there are countless dive hire shops. I am not qualified to dive and did not go in them so I can't say how good they are. There is a large marina and Sailing club, which appears to be "members only".
We also hired a bike for a cycle around Estartit - the cycle hire shop is next to FestaMar and offers mountain bikes for reasonable rates - 10euro for 3hrs.
As for 'nightlife' there were plenty of bars within walking distance. Dinos, Cafe Barracuda, Brannigans and a "Sport Bar" are all within a block of FestaMar. Most offer Sky Sports, and the usual karaoke, quizzes, bingo etc. Barracuda also has live music, and had a Flamenco show one night. The owners there are English and are very friendly and welcoming - even to us Scots!! Their food and snacks are good and you will feel at home there.
All in all we found Estartit to be a great little town and we would go back, but not straight away.

Resort was clean during first week but as more shops and resturant closed, less street cleaning and bins were emptied.
Entertainment was winding down for end of season.
Beach nice had life guards on duty
Would visit resort again but not in late September as everything shuts down, without warning

Estartit is a beautiful village with plenty of things to do. The market on a Thursday is great to walk round and you do get some good bargains tex mex restaurant was excellent.
The hover boats were a scream. Jocs was good for the kids the ice cream parlour in the town was fantastic, I didnt know you could get so many different ice creams.
The only bad point for our family was we were there when there was a festival on and the Friday night everyone was letting of fireworks we had small children with us and people were setting of fireworks all around us which we thought was very dangerous and frightened the children. We even had fireworks thrown on the balcony of our apartments a little warning from the reps wouldn't of gone amiss but altogether it was a fantastic holiday and would recommend it to anyone.

The resort has always been excellent for the family, a safe beach and lovely walkways. The people in the resort are friendly the only thing i found was if my son was on his own they treated him differtly. The bars are nice and are child friendly, i.g. Liverpool Arms & Brannigans.
The resort at night is safe if you stay in the lighted areas but that applies to whereever you are.
We have been going to this resort for the last 15 years and will contiune to visit in the years to come.
