We got what we paid for. The hotel is in need of a bit of modernisation, but it is an extremely big complex so would probably cost too much. One thing I would say is that it is clean. Towels changed every day and beds made too. Pool area and outside seating areas cleaned daily, and some of the flowers are beautiful. Generally, the hotel is comfortable and nice, with big rooms and bathrooms.
Food- after 10 days, we had enough of eating the same type of food morning, noon and night, but this is always to be expected on all inclusive basis. Breakfast excellent, with wide range of cereal, toast, pastries (best choc croissants EVER!) fruit, meats, cheeses, fried and scrambled eggs, bacon, English sausages, beans. Lunch includes salad bar, and hot buffet, the same as tea. I thought the food as tasty, never repeated or same thing served twice, always fresh salmon/beef/pork/pasta but my boyfriend lived on chips the whole time! Depends how fussy you are!! I couldnt complain though. Snacks include pasta, burgers, hot dogs, toasties, salad, fish fingers. One thing - the puddings, as usual in Spain, are terrible. Horrible dry cake, jelly, and prunes normally.
The location is a bit dodgy, between Marbella and Estepona just outside San Pedro (which is a nice little place 10 min walk away.) Basically, it is a really built up area, and I wouldn't really advise leaving the hotel as there isn't much around (unless you get on a bus and go somewhere) and the road it is on is the busiest in Europe. The traffic never stops, but noise cant be heard inside hotel complex or at night. I personally would go to one of the more 'British' resorts (ie Torremolinos/Fuengirola) if I returned to C.del Sol.
Staff are a bit abrupt, but generally helpful and give you what you want. One major thing....as others here have said, the hotel gets packed with LOUD Spanish groups and families every weekend, it makes you feel like an outsider, they completely take over, you have to time meal times to avoid the queues and they are very noisy at night. They get all inclusive deal for 30 euros a night so come here to make the most of booze and food.
Basically, the weather wasnt that good when we were there, the entertainment is boring, and with 2 kids it was very stressful trying to entertain them. All in all it was a forgettable holiday and we couldnt wait to get home, but if you are a couple who just wants to sit and read for a week or so and not cook or clean, this hotel is ideal as it is quiet (when Spanish not there) and we found the other English guests are lovely, mainly returning elderly British couples. I wouldn't go back to C.D.Sol before May due to cold weather, and definitely not to this hotel as it was boring and nothing for kids to do. Everyone seemed to think the same, but made the best of it for the price (we paid

We were pleasantly suprised to see that we had been given the honeymoon suite (we were on our honeymoon) one large room with a double bed, toilet/bathroom off and a large terrace on the ground floor, you could step out and over onto a grassed areas. Large mirrored wardrobe, tv the usual basics really.
As we had arrived late the dining room was closing however they did tell us that the small room next to it would open for snacks at 10.30 so we headed for the bar. We were all inclusive so why not!
The bar had on most occassions 3-4 bar men so you never waited long for a drink and as usual they were very generous with the measures and 2 out of the 4 guys usually had a joke with you while you waited. (Mines was as I had a just married t-shirt on - Ah you just married you have these drinks on the house, ermmmm we are all inclusive, he laughed I know). Got to give them credit it was very very busy being Christmas and New Year but they always had a smile especially Antonio and Lewis (mmmmm Lewis).
Got up Christmas morning and headed for the diningroom. Big with one very long hot counter and a couple of cold for salads, fruit and sweets. The usual food that every spanish hotel serves up, however it was always warm. after a few days we ended up going along to a lovely wee cafe to have coffee and toast etc in the morning, it does get repetative. Christmas Day meal was outstanding with plenty of wine everytime the bottle was finished they promptly replaced it 12:30 - 3pm and left full and half cut. Same again on Christmas evening and Boxing day. The same followed suit New Years Eve and New Years Day.
Entertainment was bingo every night, quizes, spanish dancers and entertainment shows, karaoke, again what you get in many spanish hotels. Kids seems to love Anna the kids entertainer. There was entertainment on during the day, archery, french bouls, rifle shooting etc and as usual if you won you got a certificate (I have many).
The cleaners are out from early morning, you have the option as there is a tag for the door to hang out cleaner or no cleaner, if she doesnt get in, in the morning she will come back in the afternoon... not many do that if you miss your chance too bad. Pool side is cleaned of litter and beds every evening and washed down early morning. The main pool is a fair size but you cant get loads of beds round it, as the walk way backs onto ground floor terraces. There is a second pool at the back of the hotel next to the tennis courts however it takes quite a while for the run to reach this area and we seen very few people around it.
Generally a nice hotel well cared for and nice staff, area is very quiet so dont look for too much excitement, this is hotel is for relaxing. We would go back if we were looking for an absolutely do nothing holiday. Marbella is a short bus ride away and is a nice day out for the shopping along with Gabralta for the duty free.

The rooms were clean and quite large really (our boys had there own room) we looked out onto the large swimming pool, which was funny the 1st weekend there as people scrambled to get sunbeds (looked like a queue for the shop sales) we used the smaller pool across from the hotel which was brill, no waiting for sunbeds as there was always plenty. Must admit pools were very cold but fine when in there.
Kids enjoyed the holiday but was a bit bored as the games were only at set times and days, we did go out most of the stay to explore differant places. Do becareful when crossing the main road it

Very clean, staff are friendly, entertainment is passable but no live sports on TV, had to go to cheers bar next to the hotel.
Location-wise its right in the middle of things!
Would recommend

Hotel staff were friendly, just doing their job. The two drinks rule was not a problem. Some waiter/waitresses in the restuarant were very slow as moving dirty plates from your table as you finish with them.
The food was okay, I have had better but it was edible and cooked, you will always find something to eat if you are not a fussy eater. The only thing I missed was being able to eat outside. I wish there had been a outside snack bar for lunchtimes. I did not like sitting in the restuarant eating lunch. On Wednesdays they do a B-B-Q and that was nice. ALso it said ice creams for children but they had to eat them in teh restuarant you could not take any food outside!!
There was always some entertainment on be it a professional show or a quiz, or disco. Some of the shows were excellent.
The JMC Rep was great he organised a cake for our Son's 5th birthday and made sure his name was called out at the mini disco, nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is 50% Spanish, 40% English and 10% French and Belgium. The Spanish come a lot at weekends but as we were there in high season a lot stayed for longer. They are very noisy.
A trip to Gibralta is well worth the effort. In fact I would recommend to hire a care for a few days.

It may be that the staff were stressed out because it was mid-August and the hotel was full but I felt that the staff resented my asking for anything (especially the reception staff), and that everything was just too much trouble for them.
The pool was freezing and in the two weeks we were there my 8 year old son went in three times and I went in once, the sea is also freezing because it is not far from where the Atlantic meets the med.
The food lacked choice and was not appetising at all, my son lived on chips and eat ended up eating very small portions due to starting a meal that was - well basic to say the least.
By the 2nd week I took my son to eat out in restaurants almost every night and most lunch times (saying that i found some great restaurants).
Entertainment was self provided most nights with Karaoke and other audience participation entertainment.
Make sure you stay in the new building with air con, the other rooms are dark and basic.
During Aug you could forget about trying to get a sun lounger too, but there are grass areas around.
The Internet access was only working for 2 days out of our 14 and because it was out of order so much when it did come on there were queues for it.
This trip and the attitude of the staff has actually put me off Spain completely for the moment.
Some of the people I made friends with did like this hotel and went back there regularly and although I paid top price i believe you can get some good deals here.
Personally I would not go back there if they said I could stay for free.

Entertainment is ok with a slight bias towards the Spanish. What made our holiday interesting was several run-ins with the pool cleaner and his assistant who did not like you putting your sun towels out on the sunbeds till 8am but this only applied if you were English.
The hotel management seemed oblivious to this and were not interested in our complaints. On a weekend the spanish arrive for long weekends and if you leave your sunbed for longer than 10 mins it becomes theirs.
Overall we had a good holiday thanks to the many friends we made but we will not be going back.
