Have returned today from the cala font, Cap Salou, what an absolute disaster. Can I point out firstly the hotel is very clean.

We normaly go all inclusive, but decided to give ourselves a little flexibility and chose the half board option. The food in the restaurant is awful, on day 2 of our stay we had to inform the manager that the bread layed out for breakfast was mouldy, he promptly removed the bread but we was offered no appology, the very same day was chicken fillets for evening meal, my husband cut into his to find it raw through the middle.... uncooked meat is a regular occurance, especially when its cooked on the hot plate by the chef for you to watch.

Staff are over worked, there was a daily shortage of coffee cups, glasses and very often food, was not replenished quickly enough leaving people standing around, forming queues. Goodness knows how they will cope in high season. The restaurant staff tend to be lacking in communication skills also. rest of the staff tended to be quite helpful.

The chappy in the gift shop is the happiest man I have ever met, and he's very well priced, we purchased our own parasol for 7 euro rather than pay the guy on the beach 3 each day to hire one.(the sunbeds at the beach are 4 euro each per day, pedalos are 10 euro per hour)he also let us top up the inflatables if they began to deflate.

The entertainment is hopeless, and kids disco starts at 9.30 to 10.00 at night????? And ends at midnight, adult entertainment is watching the kids flake out from exhaustion 1 by 1.

The rooms are spotlessy clean on arrival, however very small, we had 3 single beds pushed together to make one huge bed, a 2 to 3 foot gap and then another bed against the wall, we did not unpack as there is one tiny wardrobe and would not fit 4 peoples clothes in. Not sure about every room but in ours you have to hold lid up on the seat when using the loo because the cistern is in the way and it only lifted part of the way............the list of moaning could go on, but I won't.

If you have already booked I hope you enjoy, if not stay clear, I cried on day 5 to come home, I'v never done that, normally I don't want to leave, I am not a fussy person, but sometimes enough is enough, I would never visit this hotel again even if it was for free.

We have just returned from cala font hotel in cap salou the hotel is very clean and tidy, but our rooms were never cleaned untill late afternoon, the food was far from good it was the same day after day, tables always full of dirty pots the same at evening meal, breakfast always running out of clean cups or glasses, spoons after eight days we began to eat out which was a waste of money when we had paid for half board but just could not stand it any longer how this hotel got 3* i don`t know,I put 20 euro behind desk for phone calls made one call, when i came to check out they said no money was left i was on the phone 3min in the end they made a mistake they owed me 16 euro, entertainment was o.k great for kids.I would not go to this hotel again if we had not got our granson with us we would have gone mad

We have just returned from a lovely 2 week holiday at the Hotel Cala Font,Cap Salou. The hotel is very clean and well cared for the staff are pleasant and helpful.

There is a lovely pool area with sunbeds, however if you want to guarentee yourself a sunbed for the day then you will need to be by the pool at 10 am as this is when the beds are unlocked and there is a bit of a scramble for them ! Also ,sit on the 'road-side' of the pool as this has the sun all day-the other side loses it at about 3-4pm !! The hotel is about 1 min walk away from a lovely little beach ,access to which is across a quiet little road, water is lovely and clean and safe for little ones.

Our rooms were cleaned daily and beds made every day.The rooms were small, but there were 4 of us and we managed fine as we were not there all day anyway!

Breakfast is served between 8-11am and evening meal between 6-10pm giving you plenty of flexibility. Food is plentiful and when items do run out they are replaced in minutes by the chefs. Some of the food is a bit 'different' but the hotel tries to cater for lots of nationalities-if you can't eat here then you are really fussy !! p.s the cake selection is fantastic-but not good for the figure !

Happy hour in the hotel bar is between 11-12pm when all drinks are 241 !

Entertainment on the whole was good. They had a kids club which ran between 11.30-1.00 and 3.30-5.30,although it was not a 'secure ' kids club, children were allowed to come and go as they please so I did have to go several times to check on my 5 year old.Not much for my 9 year old to do,however he made friends and played pool and on the arcades at night and in the swimming pool during the day so it wasn't a problem.

They had a kids disco at night too at 10pm where they did dances with the kids club staff. Adults entertainment was a little limited during the day ,however they did have different evening acts which came in throughout our stay, such as a magician, polynesian dance group, flemenco dancers and singing groups.

The hotel gift shop is very reasonable and the little man who works there is very friendly and he sells everything under the sun !

All in all we had a lovely stay and would go back there again - possibly next year.

Top tips for a good stay at the Cala Font:

1.e-mail the hotel direct on their website a couple of weeks before you go on holiday to request a sea view.We did and had a stunning view of the pool and the cove.
2. Don't buy you drink & snacks from the shop across the road from the hotel-it is very expensive. On the main road that runs alongside the hotel into Cap Salou ,take a right turn and it is a short walk to the Mar-y-Mar supermercardo where items are half the price !
3. Get your sun beds early-the signs say don't put towels on chairs and beds by the pool, but everyone does and if you dont, you wont get a place.

Have a great holiday !!

We stayed in the hotel for one week. The cleanliness was great.

Glad we stayed half board because the food was good.Limited choices but you can go back as many times as you like.

The location of the hotel was fantastic only a two minute walk to the beach and lots of entertainment nearby. As regards to the hotel staff, the people on reception were very helpful and listened to you but the dining room staff were a little short on manners and congeniality.

I would definitely consider staying in this hotel again.

We recently stayed at the Cala Font hotel and had a nice time. Apart from the terrible thunder and lightening storms we had at the beginning of our holiday! We had to buy ponchos from the hotel shop (1 Euro each)so we could go out without getting drenched! The hotel shop is very cheap compared to other local shops. It's wise to buy a parasol from there for 7 euros if you go to the beach alot as the guy that rents the sunbeds and parasols at the local beach charges 5 euros for an umbrella and 4 euros for a sunbed so it works out much cheaper to own one.

This was the second time we'd stayed at this hotel. This time we were joined by our baby daughter, so the hotel must be good if we were willing to take her there. I'm glad we were half board as it's so convenient to have breakfast ready for you in the morning. There was always a good choice of fruit, cereals, continental or cooked breakfast. The evening meal was nice enough. Some evenings were better than others. I did find that the menu was quite repetetive with not alot of imagination used. But in thier defense, they are trying to cater for many nationalities. We certainly didn't go hungry though. In fact the scales reckon I've put on half a stone! If you don't want to have the evening meal on any night, you can exchange you evening meal voucher for a lunchtime one. I don't know what the lunch is like as we never had it.

The hotel was kept really clean. There were maids constantly cleaning and our room was always spotless. They do allow pets at Cala Font so this is good to see.

The location of the hotel is great if you want peace, quiet and don't mind living on a hill!. Cap Salou is about 20 minutes away from main salou but is easily reached by bus or taxi. There are bars and restaurants in Cap Salou but not many. The food in Route 66 and the Paddock are really nice. There's childrens entertainment and rides and also live bands.

The entertainment in the hotel is very repetetive and dare I say it ....boring. The mini disco is at 10.00pm and they play the same songs in exactly the same order EVERY night! The kids didn't seem to care, but for adults to watch, it was quite tedious!

The staff in the hotel on the whole were really friendly. There were a couple of miserable ones, but so would I be if I was clearing tables and taking orders all day long!

Overall we had a good time, so if you're going there, I hope you enjoy it too.

A previous post went through the range of foods on offer.

Safe to say we went home after a well fed week and didn't get bored like you can with some buffet style catering.

There are pubs/eating close by, but I think you need to be closer to Salou for more lively ones.

If you have smaller children you would not go too wrong here. The small beach right by the hotel is bordered both side by rock so your kids can run off too far. The water here seemed a lot clearer than when I have been to beach between Salou and Cambrils.

After we booked the hotel we sent them a couple of e-mails asking about parking and arrival times. We got emailed back straight away with clear information. Checking in was quick.

My Girls are 14 and 17 and the entertainment wasn't up to much for them. But as we are normally up early and out all day long (Port Aventura mostly) quiet evenings are not such a bad thing.

Oh if you do drive yourself, try to find a parking space on the dual carriageway outside Port Aventura (it is legal). It is then only a short walk and saves the car park charges.

Booked the Cala Font after reading some of the reviews, having previously stayed in 4* accommadation thought we would give the hotel a try, also wanted to visit Port Aventura.

Overall I thought the hotel was clean, however could not believe the rubbish people discarded around the pool area despite bins being provided.

Rooms:- If you are travelling with 2 or more children be prepared to packed into your room like sardines, the rooms are of a standard size despite the number in your party, there were 4 beds in our room which would normally accommadate 2. Only 1 plug socket in the room this being for the television, except for the bathroom so had some problems charging things etc.
TV available however if you wished to have the remote you would have to pay a refundable deposit at reception, your were able to hire a safe in the room which is always recommended and you could also hire a fridge but goodness knows where you would put it.

Walls on rooms are paper thin could quite clearly hear the people talking and using the bathroom next door, not a very nice experience. Also the hotel has a policy of people being quiet when returning to your room after 12 this was abused night after night as we experienced people returning to their rooms after 2am slamming doors and messing around in the corridors.

Sunbeds:- What a joke! The hotel uses a policy whereby they chain the sunbeds up until 10am to stop people reserving beds, but guess what we english can find a way around that, get up at 08:00 place a chair where you would like to put your sunbed and place a towel on there, then at 9am start to queue for your sunbed when the lifegaurd will unlock them at 10am make sure you are at the front or the person in front will take 8 beds as this happened on several occassions. I avoided this by going to the beach in front of the hotel, the one over the rocky headland where you could get a sunbed up until lunchtime much more civillized, nice little beach bar also. Tip - buy your parasol from the hotel shop much cheaper than renting one at the beach.

Hotel Food:-
Restaurant left a lot to be desired, breakfast was one of the worst I have experienced in 20 Years of travelling, no coice of adult cereal, although there was fruit, this was not prepared ie none of the usual grapefruit segaments etc, no real choice when it came to hot food for breakfast sausage, egg, bacon and thats your lot. Queue for toaster was worse than queing for a sunbed, then when it was your turn for the toaster you had place toast in twice before it even looked like toast which resulted in some very frustrated people.
Evening meals:- again very little choice although I did find enough to satisfy, swopped several evening meals for lunch and ate out. I would not class my self as a fussy eater and always like to try something new but found there to be very little choice and the buffet to small for the hotel. Small childrens buffet which is in use during high season with the usual sausage chicken nuggets etc. One unusual thing was the fact that they must not expect anyone to have a starter as there was only one set of cutlery on the table and the staff would not clear your plates between courses, so if you decided to have a starter you would either have to use the same cutlery or try find some.

Location:- The hotel was idealy situated for what we required being in the quieter resort of Cap Salou and ideal for the two beaches outside the hotel. Excellent transport links to Salou and Port Aventura would recommend using the tourist train as the buses can become very busy. only around 2 Euros to both Salou and Port Avenentura, during peak season the buses run 24 hours so don't worry about getting back from either Salou or the theme park.

Hotel Staff:- I found the hotel staff to be very good especially the reception staff who were very informative as regards to local transport etc.

Entertainment:- Afraid this was dire, who wants to go to a kiddies disco held in a smoke filled enviroment!
Also why have a kiddies disco at 22:00, stayed one night for entertainment and that was enough. The Public area ( bar area) where the entertainment was held was as a little run down and was the designated smoking area, however there was a little terrace outside which was quite pleasant.

Overall I was pleased with the Cala Font Hotel

We were full board and, yes, perhaps the food did get a bit boring towards the end but there was always something to eat and the fruit was always welcome with my family.

The entertainment wasnt for us, but my children are 15 and 13 now so we were able to go out in the evenings into the town just a short walk away for a drink etc.

The pool was clean but I agree with Ken about the rubbish around the pool. Some people are like animals when it comes to disposing of rubbish etc.

The beach was really lovely and Im so glad I chose Cap Salou and not Salou for the beach and the location of our hotel.

My main gripe was the sunbed situation. I must of spent 14 hours of my holiday queued up waiting for sunbeds. We all used to take it in turns sitting in the 'hot seat' waiting for the (miserable) lifeguard to turn up at 10am. We complained to the manager about it and she agreed there was a problem but didnt know how to cure it. I got really angry on the first day and she said if beds were sitting there with just towels on for more than an hour, the lifeguard would remove them and, on one occasion, i did see him do this.

We had a pool/sea view which was lovely. If you do book a room there, email the hotel and request this (not guaranteed I know). There are some rooms which are on the road and below ground level which must have been awful

All in all we had a great time and I would definitely choose the Cala Font Hotel again.

Reception staff were very friendly and hotel is ince looking upon arrival. It is set on a very steep hill with a small cove a the bottom. When we arrived in our room we were very disappointed. The rooms are much too small, nowhere to put your belongings etc especially since we were a family of four with two young boys. The beds are all pushed beside each other so there is no space and no privacy. I also had issues regarding electrical appliances blowing in our room. When i reported this to reception they said there is a fault on my floor and this alwasy happens! Great! Was too scared to plug in my
