the resort is great,
the weather was sunny and hot high 30's - 40's most days
the markets are just great to have a laugh and to pick up a bargain for back home.

the turkish people really pay attention to the children,
which is great to see a smile on there little faces even when its very late.

although if you like swimming wear some shoes as the rocks are very sharp.as we found out.

Calis beach.

This early in the season the resort was just starting to awaken from the winter, we had the place to our selfs, just what we wanted.

The Bus into Fethiye is very good, will stop any time any where to pick you up. runs about every 20 mins at a high price of about 50p.

The people are one of the friendly we have meet, nothing is to much trouble.

Tusday market in Fethiye is absolutely vast, plenty of very good bargins. dont be afraid to dicker, but always with a smile and a joke.

Have fun.
we will be back.

Loved the resort, a little quiet but with fethiye only ten minutes away by bus and so cheap to get there it was fine.

The best restaurant there was easily bar oz, which is just over the footbridge on the left hand side.

Doesn't look much from outside but the food was great and the staff made us feel like family.

They all took time on our last night to say goodbye. properly and see us on our way.

They were great.

Will definiatly go back very soon!

I had quite mixed feelings about Calis. It was extremely clean and had a very friendly feel to it. The "hassle" from bar/resteraunt owners was minimal and very good natured which was a lovely change from Gumbet the previous years. Eating on the sea front watching the stunning sunsets was a fabulous experience and there are so many good places to eat you would need a couple of months to visit them all! But that is about all there is to Calis...there are very few shops and the resort lacks character in my opinion.
Fethiye is a short dolmus ride or a longer but more enjoyable water taxi ride away and it was sometimes a relief to "escape" there as Calis can become a little claustrophobic. The Sunday market in Calis was a great disappointment after Turgetreis last year, I was not tempted to buy any clothes at all and there were not many to choose from. Shopping in Fethiye was much better.
The beach was poor but I had known in advance that it would be - no sand at all, lots of very sharp shingle.
We had a fantastic day out on a jeep safari, excellent fun and great value. Another excellent trip was a boat trip - we booked one of the smaller boat taxi trips, 12 people on board. Lunch was a fabulous spread....chicken and steak barbecued on the front of the boat and an amazing spread of freshly made salads, pasta dishes etc.
I would visit Calis again but only because I have friends there, not because I was particularly fond of the resort.

Calis Beach seems to be a relatively new resort. Smaller than the nearby resorts of Fethiye, Olu Deniz and Hisaronu, there is less nightlife here than in these more developed resorts.

There are, however, more than enough bars and restaurants along the beach front, and even 2 small nightclubs on the main road.

The resort seems to be very "English", with all restaurants offering English breakfasts (complete with Tesco bacon!) and chip butties, but thankfully not too commercialised, retaining its Turkish charm. There is a fantastic Turkish bar (turn left when you reach the beach), which many locals seem to go to, and is a must for anyone visiting Calis.

The beach was shingle, and very narrow and 4km long. You have to pay to use the parasols and sun loungers, but it seems nice - we didn't go to the beach during the day because our hotel was so good, and we did many excursions while we were in Turkey.

The excursions were fantastic. We used a local operator (Seaside tours), but they all seem to use exactly the same (or very similar) boats and transfers, so it doesn't matter who you go with - get the best price!

We visited the Turkish Hammam (Turkish baths - £8), which was a good experience and very relaxing (though rough!). Fethiye market and Ghost town included a free lunch (this whole trip was free because we paid for the other excursions, and because they take you to the local gold and leather centres on the way).

We were disappointed with the market - it's not very big and all the stalls sell exactly the same (poor quality) fakes, but lunch at the ghost town was good. We would recommend you don't do this excursion but just take the local dolmus (water taxi) to Fethiye and do it yourself- you can come home when you want that way!

We also did the 12 Islands boat trip (36 each incl lunch) which was fantastic! It really is a must - the Turkish coastline is beautiful, and it's a great day out. Only complaint is that there are about 10 boats that do the same trip every day, and you seem to sail in convoy so there are always masses of people wherever you stop to swim, but unless you charter your own boat you can't avoid this!

We also did the Olu Deniz boat trip (£8 each incl lunch) which was equally fantastic, and less crowded than the 12 islands cruise when you stop to swim, although there were still a fair number of other boats around.

You should definitely do a boat trip while in Turkey - the Turquoise coast is just beautiful, and it makes a great day out - something more interesting than just sitting by the pool - and they are so cheap! Don't pay more than we did though, as the tour operators are all competing with each other. They all seem to stop at £6/£8, so this is probably the lowest they can all go.

We were surprised at how expensive Calis was to eat out. Having read reviews, we were fully expecting to be able to eat out for less than £5 each every night but this was not the case. Most meals (incl 1 drink) will come to about £10 each - drink beer because it is cheap; spirits will cost you a fortune! However, having said this, the resort is not extortionate; just not as cheap as we were hoping (being students, this holiday was most definitely on a shoestring!)

The resort is only about 50 minutes away from the airport, so not a horrible transfer either. Be warned - buy plenty of water and food for your stay at the airport before you get there as they rip you off completely: We paid almost £10 for 2 small bottles of water and 2 snickers bars!!!

Finally do not forget mosquito spray - I was bitten to pieces and it's horrible!!! There was a doctor on the beach, who accepted all forms of travel insurance, it seemed, and the hospital is close too (a very modern one) just in case you're unlucky enough to fall ill while you're there.

Calis is a lovely resort, and we would recommend it. Although we would not be adverse to going again, we would probably try a different resort next time.

quiet resort the beach never gets busy and there is a welcoming cooling breeze in the afternoon
reasonabley priced bars and restaurants line the traffic free prom (sit at one and watch the fantastic sunsets!!!!)and evenings are spent strolling around
there are a couple of disco type places but if its a hectic night life you want the you have to go into Fethiye
get there by water taxi (very relaxing) or dolmus
there are variuos excursion from calis and olu deniz is only a short way away
ideal resort for couples wanting not a lot to do and people with very young children

Calis is a very laid back resort and there are numerous bars and restaurants. There is no hassle from any of the bars/restaurants owners and once you have said "no, thank you" they leave you alone.

This resort would appeal mostly to the more mature traveller. There is nothing much for groups with young children, except the Aqua park, which we did not visit, so can't give a report.

The sun sets are spectecular though! Probably the best place to view them in the area.

The resort was typical of the area suffering from unplanned erratic growth. It was generally quite dirty apart from the immediate beach area. The fetid canal which is the water -taxi route to the bay and Fetihye was the source of many of the mosquitos which plague visitors. The locals were friendly and helpful and the hassle was at a minumum and we enjoyed the place despite the hotel. There is a good beach and an excellent selection of low cost restaurants but little else to entertain. The usual tourist shops abound.
