Hello All - we have just returned home from the Tropical and can I say your advice above was spot on - thank you !!
Anyway, I thought I'd let the forum know my own thoughts on this, dare I say it, at times controversial Hotel ?
Lets cut to the chase, anybody who whinges about the rooms, food and entertainment must have very high expectations ! Yes this is a 4star, but as we all know, this doesn't mean the same standard as our 4star.
Rooms - We had a jacuzi suite, very spacious however the decor (considering the place is relatively new) must have been designed by an Interior Designer who had a personality transplant

However, it suited our needs perfectly and we had not gone on Holiday to spend 90% of our time in our room!
Food - Always a lively debate. In my opinion for the volume of food being produced, it was actually very good. Okay Breakfast lacked a bit of variety, but with Lunch, Dinner and Snack Bars serving a large selection of food, I find it impossible for people to go hungry. I attend many corporate dinners with similar numbers of guests at UK Hotels owned by DeVere, Hilton, Marriott etc. Believe me the food at the Tropical would beat all the dinners I've had at these establishments.
Entertainment - There is always some thing going on. If you can't find anything to entertain you from their selection, then you need to get out more. Okay the quality of the shows etc wasn't scintilatingly good, they were doing their best and look at how much this is costing you. If you wanted top entertainment, stay at home and go to the West End !
So basically, anybody who doesn't enjoy this resort obviously expects rooms like the Ritz, food from The Savoy plus a different West End blockbuster every night with the original cast members.
For the money, for me, you would have to go along way to find anything better - well done First Choice !
Ps only real gripe was that the restauarant was patently under staffed for both Breakfast and Dinner. Our daily games of hunt the glass or the coffee mug were mildly amusing after the 3rd day
