Hi there,
my boyfriend and I intend on enjoying a break in North Devon or the Dorset coast; either camping, caravanning or BnB-ing, and we were wondering if anyone had any advice on where to go to avoid the kids but on a budget because we're skint.
we'd like to go somewhere with good bodyboarding and a bit of life (a couple of pubs, preferably no clubs) without the place being too over developed and touristy. We were thinking of Croyde etc.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Marianne
Hi Mazzza
If you're into bodyboarding, then it's got to be N Devon. Dorset's lovely, but the breakers on the English Channel don't compare to the Atlantic.
Croyde's a good location, and the two pubs in the village are pretty lively in season. I've stayed in a static caravan at Ruda Bay. It's expensive, though, gets booked months ahead, and there are loads of kids.
I prefer Woolacombe, just up the road. The surf's as good as Croyde, and it's got more pubs, restaurants etc. The Red Barn is the surfer's hang-out in the evenings. There's a small nightclub- Marisco's - that's only open in season. It's not intrusive, though & you don't seem to get gangs of drunks lurching around the village.
The four biggest campsites in the area are all owned by the same chain, and are expensive (£45/night for a tent pitch!) and full of kids.
Much better value is North Morte Farm, at about £7pppn. Great views, friendly owners, but very windy. Mortehoe village is nice, too, with 3 pubs, a chippie and a couple of shops.
Any more info, please pm me.

I would say Croyde as it's one of my favourite places but not sure where you will get cheap accommodation. I've stayed on Ruda and have to agree with the above post it is pricey.
I think Woolacomb would be better for you, although i loved croyde, evening entertainmnet is very limited, there are 2 pubs, both are OK, but nothing special.
