Just how lively of active is it there?
As for evening entertainment - I hate all that organised butlins type shows - Miss Riu Merengue and all that type of stuff, so we used to find a quiet bar (usually the pool bar at the bachata) and drink ourselves silly. The disco seemed to be full of canadian under 20's whenever we went there - one of whom tried to chat me up even though my husband was standing right next to me - he almost got his head ripped off.
None of the hotels in the Dom Rep are party type hotels but I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Just returned from a weeks AI at the above.
A truely fabulous place. Would recommend without hesitation.
We have just reurned from the Riu Merengue in the DR and had a fantastic time and did not want to come home.
You can use the facilities of the other 2 Riu Hotels next door which is quite handy as it feels like you are staying in one big complex and able to use all the facilities.
We travelled with thomson/britannia and wondered if we should have upgraded before we went, but there really was no need as the leg room was quite adequate, the only downside was that we did not have the TV's in the back of the seats.
I know you are looking to travel in June and we went in October but just wanted to recommend the Riu Hotels.
Conrad sharm el sheikh AI hotel in egypt. Excellent hotel, excellent location, lovely beach and very hot weather, would highly recommend this hotel
Conrad sharm el sheikh in egypt is an excellent AI hotel. Good for kids, very hot and right on a lovely sandy beach.
beautiful location, lovely quiet beach, fantastic staff and recently refurbished to update on a previous comment. ask for a high flooor (7th is top where we were) for stunning panoramic views and gorgeous sunsets
great for families with Thomson and hotel-run kids clubs going on plenty to do, the hotel entertainment staff felt like friends by the time we left(even took us out on the town with them!)
feel sad just writing about it as not yet booked for next year due to other commitments - although friends have on our recommendations!
will definetely return for years to come - I love this place!!
We are happy to consider anywhere except Spain, but ideally we need to book directly with the resort so that we can arrange our own flights. Three of us will be travelling from Spain and two from different parts of the UK. We also have some airmiles which I am hoping to use to keep the costs down a little.
We have three lively teenagers so a good range of water sports are essential and the opportunity to swim with Dolphins would be a bonus.
There looks to be so much useful information on the forum, but without a destination in mind, I don't really know where to start. I'd be very grateful for any recommendations. Thank you.

Wish we could go back year after year. You can eat in an a la carte resturant every day on the 2nd and subsequent visits. Just a pity that a number of agencies have clocked onto it being decent, they will be shipping chavs there soon
I've been to a few A/I hotels, but Paradius Rio De Oro in Cuba is by far the best one. Great food, great rooms, lovely beach, lots of activities, friendly staff....i could go on!
Having just taken 6 kids away hubby and i are hoping to get away child free novemberish, maybe have to take the youngest as he is both of ours, wereas the others will go to their other mum/dads, second marriage.
