I refuse to pay for what is normally a horrible meal in a plastic tray but we are always given a meal regardless which the rest of the family happily chomp away on.

Having flown many times without booking meals, we always recieved one,
But have just flown with first choice and having not booked a meal were put at rear of plane and recieved nothing.

This is the same with Thomson's but even if they were giving them away free I would'nt eat them they are awful since they got the Italian chef.

Indeed, the Aldo Zilli meals are probably the worst meals we have ever had. This summer was our first Thomson flight, I booked two normal meals for the kids and a "healthy options" meal for myself. The kids didn't enjoy their meals at all, and my "healthy" salad had brown lettuce :yuck I spoke to someone else at our hotel from another Thomson flight and they said their bread rolls were mouldy
Luckily it was only a short hop over to Ibiza and we weren't hungry for too long, but if I had to book with Thomson again I'd probably buy some sandwiches at the airport.

Well i wouldnt say i dont enjoy the inflight meals but there not the best! , once about 6 years ago me , my husband & 3 year old daughter went on holiday to Cyprus , the meals wernt that bad untill about an hour later , we discoverd a bad stomache and a sicky feeling (sorry to anyone about to eat ) , well what it was we had chicken & it gave us food poisoning we still have inflights meals now not that it bothered us just dont eat the chicken no more! we havent booked inflight meals for October going to Cyprus but we had an itinerary come through and its charged us for meals weather we will get them or not i dont know !

Now , all i know about taking your own foods / drinks are your not aloud to take more than 100ml of liquids and your only aloud certain foods ? but after going through security then your aloud to buy whatever in the departure lounge:)

I haven't read the whole thread however a bit of advice, with most charter airlines if you book a flight and you fly on another airline, by this I mean say you book a Thomas Cook holiday but fly on a Thomsonfly plane, then to save the confusion Thomas Cook will pay for a meal on your behalf.

So its worth having a look at the back of the brochure and if your destination has a different operator than the majority of the flights then its a pretty safe bet you will be getting fed for free!

We flew with Thomson to Turkey in June and I didnt book a meal as my husband does not eat pasta. When the lady next to me opened her meal it was disgusting so from now on I will have a snack at the airport and wait until I arrive at my hotel.I can understand the need to have a meal on a long haul flight but on short haul I dont think it is necessary.

Ye, we don't tend to book meals now, We got them free with First Choice in May to Reus which was a short flight, they were dissapointing to say the least and if we had paid the money they wanted we could have been gutted. Nothing like the airplane meals you used to get

Just wondering if is worth paying for them or not ? I am assuming it will be a Thomas Cook aircraft/flight. The route would be Gatwick to Sharm. (not sure if that makes a difference).

Thanks to anyone who answers.

Hi Doe - yes we've had several meals with them. They're no better or no worse than any other airline. We actually rather enjoy the food, however we aren't fussy eaters. I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that you can actually see the menu for the season, the same as you can see the films that are going to be shown. Maybe one of the mods might know, or Dazbo!!

Pretty much the same as what you get with thomson . We actually quite like to have the meal too Helen but I dont often part with the extra money now and just make up some rolls etc .

I'm getting the feeling you are about to book Chris :rofl

Thanks Helen :)

It's such a long flight to Sharm sometimes it's just easier to go with the meals, as it breaks it up a bit. I do agree that they are all much of a muchness. I might do a few searches, now that you mention it I do seem to remember there is a site out there where people post pictures of there meals. We aren't really all that fussy either, but the kids are so theirs are a bit of a waste. But I cant bring myself to buy them for us but not them, even though they only eat the funny little chocolate you get.

Edit: Not really Lyn still dithering, adding in meals then taking them out again. :rofl We seem to carry so much that to take a packed lunch for 4 is just one bag too many.

I'm stressed out on the morning that we fly anyway. The thought of making packed lunches as well makes me come over in a sweat :rofl . I can't wait to get to the airport to have a drink & calm me down. The price of the in flight meals has gone expensive, but when I think how much money we get through on hols I just count it as one extra meal ;)

Well yes there is that too Helen . I seem to remember that the last couple of flights we have had have been evening ones so i probably would of had plenty of time .

My family were NOT impressed when I produced our packed lunch from a carrier bag like we were on some coach outing to clacton. they disowned me for most of our flight . All in the name of saving a few quid and sticking my two fingers up at the cost of a plane meal :rofl

:rofl I just quickly bought a bag of eight croissants and 4 cartons of OJ one year. Nobody was very impressed

Seem to be 52 pounds on Direct, which is for 8 meals I suppose, so not too bad. I wouldn't bother if it was Portugal or Spain, but Egypt's a bit of a hike. Also its OK doing a pack-up going but coming back it's a bit of a nightmare.
