Using a taxi voucher from the tourist welcome office, I was told the price is about 22 Euros. So I caught the bus, which cost 3 Euros.

Thanks a lot cubsur, there will be four of us so that cuts the cost down a bit, last time we went it was 15 euros so its still not that bad and thanks for reminding me about the vouchers.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how much it will cost for 5 people to Santa luzia from faro airport.
We have got day flights - if that makes any difference??

Thanks

Hi Sha33a, I don't think the times of your flights will make any difference to the price,
although I could be wrong. (I am, quite often BUT don't tell my kids! :haha )

The firm we used last year were so popular with both holiday makers and local businesses,
they had to stop taking internet bookings.
(It's mentioned further back on this thread actually :) )

It meant they could fulfil all their obligations and not let anyone down - good business
acumen I think.

Anyhow, I am reliably informed that they are now taking internet bookings again, after having
increased the amount of both their vehicles and workforce.

Have a look at algarve-365.com
Your destination isn't listed, but email and ask about it.
If they can accomodate you, I'm sure they will.

And just incase we don't *speak* again, have a fabulous holiday! :cheers

Just been told by a member of another expats forum that lowcosttransfers.co.uk have gone bust, but they are still advertising on their internet website so whether this is true I am unsure, just a word of caution before you choose to book them..

To be fair Jayjan, I have no idea how they have lasted so long charging the prices they have. We sometimes quoted for jobs and clients replied saying they had been quoted by said company for literally what it would cost in fuel to do the job. Add to that a drivers wage, parking ticket at the airport, Social Security a kitty for wear and tear and it just didnt add up.

EDIT: Forgot to add...I am not sure if it is low-cost that has gone bust. I had heard it was Best Days, who I think did the work on behalf of Low-cost. Would hate to see anybody being done for slander. Maybe somebody in the know could clarify this so that a reputable company does not get a bad name.

Diskwizz I have also heard they have since been seen at the airport with a board waiting for clients so maybe the rumour isnt true. I only heard off another forum that they where connected, but obviously not so.Oh by the way I would be happy to put your web on my web, as I know you have had some excellent recommendations for airport transfers on holidaytruths, :D cheers Jayjan

I don't know if it's because it's out of season, because this is the cheapest I have ever known it,
but last week, the boards by the taxi ranks were advertising Albufeira to Faro airport for €25!

Times is 'ard and they are obviously concerned about the competition from the transfer companies.

Hi,

Does anyone have an update on the price of taxis from Faro airport to Vilanova Resort Hotel, albufeira?

Not sure if to get a taxi at the airport for 5 of us or book a taxi before we go. We have not been here before so would appreciate any advice. We go this Saturday, 11th April.

Thank you for your help.

Sue

Pre-booked transfers will almost invariably work out cheaper. Most transfer firms have mini buses to accomodate five or more people and their luggage.

Sue, you would need two taxi's if there are five in your party - there's not many people carrier taxi's about
(I have only ever seen/used one - a VW Sharan, and even then, it wasn't at the airport.)

For that reason alone, you are better off booking a private transfer.
It'll be much cheaper than two taxi's and your luggage will fit in with no problems.
It's not too late to book now.

We use INVALID URL who I knowe will accomodate you at such a late stage if they can.

Have a great holiday! :cheers

Travel Republic have reduced their shuttle transfer from Faro airport to Albufeira.

It was £11.00 each way. :)

It is (at the moment) :really £6.69 each way! :D
Reply
Milly molly what does the "shuttle" service involve? Is it better than a tour operators coach transfer?
I'm going to Alvor and I know the tour operators transfers there can take 3 hours or more. The taxis I've priced up are about 110 Euros return.

Hi Martha, :)

Sorry I am only just answering you. (I haven't been on the PC since Saturday.)

The shuttle service is similar to the transfer service offered by the tour operators.,
Depending on the destination (and amount) of your fellow passengers on the day you
are arriving/departing depends on how long it takes to get to and from your resort.

(For instance, my friends used the shuttle service three weeks ago and were at their
accomodation in Albufeira within the hour.
They used it again last week, and it took them nearly two hours to reach the same
destination.)

It's also worth remembering that, depending upon how many hotels/apartments the
shuttle coach/minibus has to pick up from on the return journey, depends on how
early you are collected yourself.

It's very popular with many people (especially single travellers and couples) because it is
a good, cheap option( but to be honest - it's not for me).

For example, at the moment, the price of the Travel Republic shuttle service to Alvor in
June is £19.42 per person (return).

I would rather pay for a direct and private transfer, (where you don't have to drop off/
collect other people) not because I am anti-social - I am far from it.

My reason? Because on the two occasions we have had to share with other people, at least
one person has :

Been late (making us late for the check in at Faro)
Still in the apartment bar and reluctant to leave it
That same person was then drunk, gobby and offensive (to his fellow party members but not
nice for everyone else either) on the journey to the airport.

Absolute nightmare!!!

For those reasons alone, a direct and private transfer is worth every penny/cent, in my opinon .
