Depending on how long your short break is, and whether you want to be at Alton Towers the whole time, there are lots of hotels, b&b's, travelodges etc in Derby and we are only about 45mins away.

Hi,
there are quite a lot of b/b and such like in uttoxeter and alton and villages around there, it only takes about 15mins to 30mins depending on trafic but should be a lot quiter at this time of yr to the towers from uttox but as i say there are places even closer like denstone, stramshall and other little villages around there, but it also depends on which area you are comming from.

you will have a great time its fab i love it and i am in my 50s but i am very close in uttox so not so far to travel.

Hi

I have also been looking at accommodation near to Alton Towers for the last couple of days and the one that I really liked the look of is The Chained Oak Farm accommodation. It is just opposite the gates of A. Towers and you can even leave the car there and walk over. Unfortunately, they haven't got the dates I wanted, but thought I would mention it as it looks lovely.

Looking to stay near to Alton Towers in May for a couple of nights. Have looked at the travel lodges but they don't do breakfast unless you go to the little chef. Can anyone help? Thanks

My 19 year old grandaughters are desperate to go to Alton Towers but they cant find a coach company leaving from either Edinburgh or Glasgow that go there. Does anyone know of any company that does trips to Alton towers or how easy it is to get there by train.
Thank you

Hi Londongirl, it seems that you can get a coach from Edinburgh to Stafford and then a shuttle bus to the theme park have a look at http://www.nationalexpress.com - I think the shuttle is arranged by the park itself, if you called them they can give you more information.

Hope that helps.

Anyone know why the BOGOF's for Alton Towers seem to exclude 10th July ?? We were planning on visiting then (school inset!) but wonder if there is some reason to avoid A.T on that day???
