We live in a tiny remote village in Cornwall called Lerryn. We moved there from another part of Cornwall 8 years ago.
Not many people have ever heard of it, and it's really quite tiny, with a population of about 300.
We arrived in Goa quite late in the evening, and decided to go for a quick drink before we unpacked, and retired for the night.
We sat at a table facing 4 women from England, and (like you do) we got chatting.
The women were from Birmingham, and asked us where we were from.
"Cornwall" I said.
"Oh, whereabouts in Cornwall". One of the women asked.
" A little village no-one's ever heard of". I told her.
"What's it called" she asked
"Lerryn" I said.
It turned out that the woman was born, and grew up in Lerryn, and we actually lived behind her Sister.
She was at university in Birmingham, and on holiday with friends.
It's a small world isn't it?
I once went on a blind date and the woman who met me was my wife!!! Only joking!
Years ago when I was still at school I bumped into my maths teaches in a campsite in France! Also my sister was in a little village pub somewhere in Ireland and my auntie and uncle who live about a mile away from us in coventry walked in!
We use to live in a little village in the Peak District that was the subject of a lot of paintings. On holiday in Fuerterventura we ventured into a little bar and noticed pictures of our village and others close by. The barman/owner then proceeded to tell us he use to live nearby and his best friend happened to be one of my husbands golfing gang .. what a small world !!!!
We were having a meal at a little chinese restaurant at the edge of the sea in Majorca. I happened to turn round and saw a couple in the distance that looked like people we knew from the next village. I told hubby, and he said not to be so daft. As they came closer I could see that it really was them. We used to often meet people in the airport that we knew.
I live on a small cul-de-sac with just 6 houses, the neighbours were the ones who live directly opposite, their front door being about 15yards from mine.
A couple of years ago we did a tour and cruise to the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. There were about 40 people in the group and one day we got talking to a couple from Hull. I know one person who lives in Hull says I. Turns out he is their next door neighbour!
About 20 years ago in Cala Bona we were out drinking with friends. We went into this little bar near the harbour. We had been in there a while and I looked up and on the wall in with all the other photos and paintings was a small black and white photograph of my old school. I asked at the bar and the owner was fetched, we had been at school together in the 60s!
On every holiday we've ever been on, we've got chatting to someone we either know, or lives nearby.
On the last day of the holiday in Goa, we were sat around the pool with a couple who had just arrived.
It turns out we were in the same class in Primary school in Birmingham!!
I work in West heath/Longbridge. I won't say the name but it is a Girls School, there is only the one round there.
2 years in a row at 2 different holiday destinations I met a teacher frommy school, though I wasn't in any of his classes.
I know Lerryn pandy . It's close to lostwithiel. Stayed at Tredethick farm cottages one summer . We strolled into Lerryn one morning . Beautiful little creekside village. remember helping a guy and his son in a yard load up a canoe they had made or repaired .
Mine wasnt a good coincidence, when we went to dubai while queuing to check in we saw my partners ex, i stole him off her in my teens.........
Also in turkey last year, we met a couple and they new my mum and dad, and remembered me from when i was a toddler. He was in the navy with my dad. We got chatting on the first night and throughout the week we discovered this, and that when i was two i had thrown up all over the couple in italy. Nice.
Several years ago we were on a round the island boat trip in Malta and a couple from our village were on the same trip, second time we were in Malta and got talking to this chap and it turned out he was born in Delabole (actually lived in Lostwithiel I think). We were in Menorca and met another couple from just up the road then a few years later we were walking along a beach in Zante and met the same couple! We went to Lanzorote about ten years ago and met a friends son who was there on his honeymoon. We met another couple from our village as we strolling along a road in Corfu, I think there maybe one or two other instance's but I can't think of them at the moment.
It certainly is a very small world!
2001 walked into our hotel restaurant and met a couple who we know very well from our local.
Small world, thank god I was with the wife.

Few years down the line, we're back in Benidorm and just so happen to see them again! We hadn't planned it and neither families knew the other were going away.
Even funnier, turns out a few years later that I'd move into the house next door to them. Can't get rid of me!
Small world, thank god I was with the wife.
So you'll have a lot of empathy with the work colleague of my then boyfriend whom we met with a woman that he swiftly introduced as his 'wife' - except this wasn't the 'wife' who'd accompanied him to the last office social event! We were never sure which one - if either - was the real 'wife' after that! We kept shtum but had a good chuckle later.

Few years ago my parents went to Australia for 3 months, the had taken a train across the desert for 3 days to a very remote area,, one tree, and a lake,,,and a hotel and a few shops,,,,,,, they were down by the lake one evening talking about where Robbie Williams was from ( we live in Stoke), mum said Trentham, Dad says Tunstall,,,,,,,, a lady walked up to them and said its actually Tunstall cos thats where we are from!!!
It turned out she saw the wedding on the TV in the hotel and recognised us. They then went to Bird Island which is quite remote and got chatting to a couple who had been to their sons wedding in Male.
It turned out to be my son-in-laws parents.
Now one person replied, and both of us from Glasgow, now with some more information coming out, we now find that we both from the same city, and probably know each other to see
Now day of flight, I arrive at 6 am and check-in, usual go through departures, look at everyone and think, is it you
Now I board the planne, and taker my seat, when this couple sit next to me, and they ask me if I posted the mesaage on tripadvisor, turns out this couple were the same couplw from where I come from
After talking for several hours, we also found out that his wife had recently left her job - and my daughter took her place!
