Hi pablo and the boyz,
Sooooooo glad to hear you young uns had a great time in PEK. We have been to the Marhaba Palace twice before, and are off again on 21st May for another week. This time taking our eldest son (age 22) and his girlfriend (age 21) as we are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. !!!! :omg :love Did worry that there may not be enough night life for them, but hey what the heck, they are getting a free holiday. My hubby and son are both avid golfers and the two 18 hole golf courses are right on the doorstep with magical views over the whole of Port el Kantaoui. We love wandering down to the Marina at night after dinner, just having a bottle of wine, a beer or a coffee. Looking forward to it so much now, just hope we get as good weather as we did this time last year. :sun
Will post on the Marhaba Palace when we get back, personally we love it, can't understand some folks moans about the hotel. Tunisia is a poor country but the people are so friendly and the staff do work very hard. They do depend on tips to boost their wages, but at least they appreciate it when given, unlike Britain :x and America, where tips are mandatory even for BAD service.
Happy hols everyone................

the reason i think people moan or complain about tunisia is cuz they dont do enough things to keep them occuipied
we were always doing missions to the remote areas where the tourists were warned not to go...
we are all cage fighters so we no how to look after ourselfs but no once did we get a spot of bother even on the nights out in the clubs the local people loved us......

what we saw in tunisia is that many tourists do not leave the hotel complex so after a day or two they run out of things to do so they start to hate the holiday...

yeh i will be defo revisting that place but when im a bit older i think, i think i`ve still got many years of clubbing and hardcore drinking in me yet so next location will be miami in sept

if theirs any lads out their oh my gosh the tunisia ladies in the night clubs are stunners (without sounding rude) they are very easy also...

hi, glad you had such a good time. im your age and im going in june for the first time and was starting to worry a bit , especially after reading reviews. people keep saying that the spirits are expensive and the beer really weak like 2% or sometimes non alcoholic. where did you get your drinks from and how much were you paying? i dont mind a long taxi journey if i can fill up a few bags with decent beer. heard there might be some nice french wines there.. did you try any?

cheers

how you doing mate
to tell you the truth none of us lads are wine drinkers
the beer was not that weak in the port they sold beer that was the average 5 or 6%
but we stuck to the vodka, barcardi and brandy which in some places especially hotels is like your drinking water, watered down extremely
but if you do go to the clubs its bang on beer is 13% and shots are normally between 37% and 90% very strong but all good
you can purchase cold beer from the supermarket places for about £1 a can, thats we done but we heavily stocked up from duty free in the plane extremely cheap barcardi 1 litre bottle £10 etc
if you are planning on going clubbing make sure you hit sousse a club on staurday night called samara now known as living oh my days the ladies....
feel like going back for them ladies ...........

I think it's extemely unlikely that any spirits sold anywhere would be 90% - that's almost pure alcohol! Most spirits sold in the UK are 40% with some of the supermarket own brands watered to 37% (this is how they can be sold at a lower price). Occassionally you will find specialist single malt whiskys at 60% (described as cask strength) but these have to be diluted with water at least half as much again to make them drinkable. 90% spirits are undrinkable unless you're into meths!

Similarly with the beers - premium bottled beers as sold in the UK and the rest of Europe are unlikely to be much over 7% - they just wouldn't taste like beer if they were and for that reason I doubt that beers in Tunisia really are ever 13% which is higher than some wines.

In the UK now the alcohol strength of any drink is listed as the actual percentage of alcohol it contains but in the past it was expressed in terms of the specific gravity. If you were to compare labels now with the way beers, wines and spirits were labelled up until (from memory) the 70s, then they'd appear to be much weaker but they are just the same strength as before - sometimes stronger to cater for modern tastes which seem to be fuelled by the desire to get inebriated quicker. What's changed is not the strength or alcoholic content but the way it is measured and described. It sounds to me that the labels you were reading in Tunisia were based on the specific gravity system and not direct alcohol content as here. Believe me - a night spent drinking any drink that was 90% alcohol would not be survivable, you'd not only collapse but probably die of alcohol poisoning in no time at all!

 ok then.................

what im saying is the alcohol in the clubs is much much stronger than the stuff in the hotels and restaurants

have u ever had desi
basically in bar mericana in sousse they sell a spirit which is made on the streets in india its called desi, its like petrol 1 shot of that will make you legless,,, smelly taste yuk :x

but im not a alcoholic so my barcardi and jack daniels was enuff for me...

!!!!!!!!!! Also if any of you people have MTV base watch out for our music video it was shot in tunisia when we were their, it should be on TV within the month so keep ur eyes peeled people!!!!!!!!

thanks for your reply, i feel alot better knowing that the beer is there. im not an alcoholic either or a wine drinker but i was being led to belive that there was no other drink there then wine and overprised spirits.
member SM, i think pablo meant it said 90% proof on the bottle not that it was ethanol. thanks to both for comments though : ) will no doubt get a couple of bottles vodka from duty free to take with me. will also try to check out that club .. thanks alot
