We returned a few weeks ago from a fantastic holiday in northern Greece. We have spent many years travelling to various parts of Greece, mainly on packages but have now started to get more adventurous. This holiday was booked independantly. We flew with Monarch to Preveza where we picked up a hire car. We stayed 2 nights in Arachova for Delphi, 2 nights in Kastraki for Meteora and 3 nights in Papingo in Zagoria to walk part of the Vikos Gorge. We then spent a second we in Aghios Nikitas on Lefkada to relax.
It certainly was a different side of Greece and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes more than a package holiday. Here are some pictures of my trip, for anyone interested.

Delphi- how easy is it to visit? I have always had a fear of steep slopes ( and have labyrinthitus). It hasn't stopped me climbing places like the acropolis but do feel a bit silly being so obviously petrified doing it. Delphi is a place I would love to visit but it might prove too much for me.
The main path round Delphi is more of a gentle slope, zig-zagging up the hillside. I wouldn't have thought you would have a problem. The Meteora monateries with their steep steps might be a different matter though!
Meteora I can't see me ever getting there
There were plenty of visitors even on October 2 and 3 ....... and it must be sheer hell in the height of summer not only from the press of people but also the heat - there is almost no shade anywhere! We even saw a snake crossing the road .......... and there were loads of cats and kittens not only in the monasteries but in the middle of nowhere.
Now I am a very round and unfit person with foot problems, but with a lot of encouragement and patience from my hubby, I managed the steps into Vaarlam and Grand Megatron and it was certainly worth doing so. If you have problems with steps, the nunnery of St Stephen is a very short and level walk with a car park close by, and is beautiful and peaceful.
DEFINITELY worth seeing, even if from a vehicle and there is reasonably priced accommodation in Kastraki and Kalambaka below the monasteries. We stayed at the Ar seniou guest house which is out in the middle of the olive groves - a clean and comfortable guest house with an English-speaking owner.
