I was supposed to be going to Greece with my mate but, expectedly he's decided he can't afford it now. Anyway.... As I'll be going on my own, I fancy a nice cruise.
What would you recommend, as I'll be on my own, I'm 28 and single.
Is there anything that would cater for me, very well? A cruise where there will be lots of other single people travelling alone?
Thanks in advance.
For regular cruiselines you may find getting a good rate for single not that easy, would need to stick to the lines that attract the younger age groups, allthough cruise passengers are generaly very friendly bunch so as long as you are reasonable outgoing there should be no problem mixing in.
"would need to stick to the lines that attract the younger age groups"
Are there many cruises though that would have single ladies in their mid to late 20s?
It's not something I've ever thought of, and that the number of women around my age group doing cruises who are single, is few and far between? I hope that isn't the case though, but I'd assume people around my age and younger, would be off to places like Greece & Spain on girls holidays ... 18-30 etc, not going on a cruise?

Island have £179 single sup on the current batch of cruises on top of a £300-£400 price tag so not bargain bacement 18-30 type prices.
Some US ships will attract more young singles/groups something like a 7n carnival in the caribbean but budget much more money with flights.
I think if you are looking for Party party party then a cruise may not be right, but I guess at the end of the day quality over quanity you may find a small group that you fit in with, luck of the cruise(draw), best to have anotheragenda as the primary motivator so a good itinery with interesting places could be a good starting point in case you don't get lucky(IYSWIM).
Yes I'm from the UK and will look into Thomsons & ISland.
As I say, I can't picture a large % of people my age wanting to go on a cruise. Is cruises mainly for the older generation?

Not really, I'd like a bit of both. I'd like to be able to chill out during some days but to also have the option of going out for drinks if I feel up to it. Ideally:
- Other singles, so there's always a chance I'll meet a nice lass - Other people travelling alone, as I'm not shy so can make conversation and meet other people
- Optional things to do during the day and night, such as Casino, shows, music, drinking etc.
- Nice weather, and seeing new sights (if it stops at different destinations).
A cruise sounds like a lot less stress.
Do any leave in the UK and arrive back in the UK?
(As opposed to having to catch a flight)
Thanks in advance and if anybody else can give me their thoughts I'd very much appreciated it. After spending hours on looking for holidays deals in Greece and then my mate letting me down (as I did expect to be fair), I'm hoping to get something sorted, as I don't fancy going yet another year without a break.
There are those that do Norway(scenic) and the baltics(great cities) as an alternative to the sun but they do attract an older demographic.
Cruises are great for chilling since just about everthing is on hand and done for you.
The age profile is wide so there will be younger adults but expect to be around all age groups including families unlike a "lads/lasses" type destination which can be wall to wall totty.
Do you have budget in mind?
For a first time "try it out" Island with the low single sup and a 7 day trip with regional flight would be worth a go and available over the next few weeks. Later in the year there is the thomsons red sea for that winter sun, they may do single rates on those I dont look at thomsons that much these days.

Under 1k for everything I'm thinking really - and it would be later in the year, not in the next few weeks. Say between August - October.

I best keep an eye out for that one then.
Ideally one that leaves from the UK, but if it involves a very short flight (say around an hour) then it wouldn't be too bad.

However, on 9 cruises now, do not recall ever seeing a single young woman on her own. Small groups, maybe 2 or 3 but never a young woman on her own.
Sometimes the cruiseship will have a singles meeting or a couple of events for singles but believe there would be an older profile i.e. 40's upwards.
There are lots of young crew members, but they are much too busy to build friendships.

Um thats not so easy August is school hols and for some reason mosts trips just after this tend to be slightly higher, so end sept and oct is your window. If this is £1k is door to door then for two weeks trip £100 parking, £100tips, £200drinks(more or less depending) so that leaves around £600 for the cruise not going to be easy to find something with the single sups. I think you will be back to a one week/10days max at this budget unless a solos deal happens. The equivilent of this did go solo cheap in 06 so might be lucky

For something a bit different and if you can find a cheap 1way flight(try http://bt-store.com/) this may be of interest, prices should drop and might get a reduced single rate at some point.

The only cruises within about an hour flight are for the balics, Amsterdam, and the baltic cities airports, the med invloves Palma or Barcelona or further which is 2.5+

According to this article Good luck with your search, it's nice to see people feel comfortable to cruise on their own. Having done cruising I would certainly travel on my own.
