Some of those long layovers in Doha can be a pig.Got to be really careful when you book.Kingfisher is great if you live in the south but for us northeners the extra travel time to Heathrow rules out that choice.
I have done extensive research and I do mean extensive on planning our September holiday and the one thing I can be certain about is from where we live(Wirral,Merseyside)there are no easy solutions.
Anyway if you want the holiday you sometimes just have to suffer the travelling.

We also live in the north west[LEIGH] but i would rather do the 3 hour drive to heathrow , than face a 20+ hr lay over, especially on the return leg .We have flown from heatrow and gatwick a few times to the states and thailand . If you think about it its only a couple of hours longer it takes a hour to get to MAN, Plus the parking cost is roughly the same .The only extra is the fuel to get there in our case diesel 60mpg .So considering we have only paid £798 for a 5 STAR service i will put up with it plus her eyes lit up when i told her about the 45KG BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

The deal we got was with Emirates from Birmingham. Not too bad a drive from where we are and with our flight coming back evening there are amazing hotel with parking deals to be had.
we are also up north and will go down to heathrow on the train. can get a good deal if you book early. may stay over night in london on way home, hilton T4 if i can get it for around thr price i pay for parking at manchester £90. if you keep looking you can find amazing deal..
we live in s.wales , have booked from cardiff to gatwick with national express coaches £39 each return, a good deal when you think of the cost of petrol , the actual drive and the cost of parking at gatwick for 3 wks.
Valleylady that is a good price we used N/E coaches in march from birmingham to gatwick and it cost us £47.50 each.
gatwick with national express coaches £39 each return, a good deal when you think of the cost of petrol , the actual drive and the cost of parking at gatwick for 3 wks.
We get the Megabus from Dundee to Edinburgh Airport for 50p each way - using our bus passes.
