I've booked 3 times hotel only via Thomsons and every time I've paid in £'s at the time of booking, the last twice being in December 07 for bookings in Dec. 07 and Jan. 08.
This was for hotels in the Algarve, so could depend on the country perhaps?????
No problems with any bookings, just presented the downloaded voucher, very, very happy, excellent service and value.

Thanks for both of your replies.

I would actually be happier doing it the way you did Robbie. As you say perhaps it's because its Fuerteventura not the Algarve, they may have different payment arrangements for different Countrys or different accommodations. My real concern is say I book it at one price and the pound plummets my holiday will be more expensive. If I new I had secured it at the price I had on the date of booking I wouldn't be so bothered, but I cant see if this is the case from the site.

I guess the only way I can find out for sure is ringing a premium phone enquiry line.

What are your dates and accommodation???
One thing you could try is to go into a Thomson shop and get them to match/beat the online price, my brother actually has done it this way.
I still can't see why the Canaries would be different, maybe they have changed payment methods this year???

Thanks for the pm Robby, unfortunately Thomson had timed the page out but I will have another look to see if I can make sense of it, I may have actually found something cheaper on another site, but I like to know how these things work.
It does seem odd that they have it on the first page in pounds and then the second in Euros.

Thanks Pat, its nice to know others have booked and all has gone well, thats what I lik about HT people are always willing to help if they can.

hi chris . I have booked my accomodation only for ADR with thomsons . I did get right through to the confirm booking stage but in my case they wanted all the money so I rang the local thomson shop and they pricematched with an addition of a booking fee but with the shop I only needed to pay a deposit . From what I know when booking weekend breaks many of the accomodation sites that trip advisor have links with you pay in that way on checkout . Yes they would email you an accomodation voucher which should have the cost on but if you have been quoted in euros I would say that is what would be on your accomodation voucher in which case Yes you would be at the hands of the exchange rate at the time.

hope that helps a little

Doe, did it not maybe mean on checkout from the website rather than checkout from the hotel?

I've booked through them before too, The Marina Torrenova in Palma Nova, but it was pay on checkout from the website and present the accommodation voucher on arrival at the hotel.

I also booked accommodation only on the thomson website, it also said I didn't have to pay till I checked out of the hotel. My hotel was in Majorca. I did phone the helpline and they said if there was any problems ring them when I get back.

Thanks for all the replies. Hope I am explaining it clearly.

It seems odd because if I put in my date and a generic destination, ie just Fuerteventura I get a different price, than if I select the hotel by name.

It's when I do the first option that I get a good price and pay nothing now, but pay in Euros on check out of the hotel. This would suit me best, provided I secure it at the price given on the day I book, as I have 400 Euros left from another holiday.

Mollie
Was yours in Euro's and did you pay the same as quoted on the web-site the day you booked?

I haven't been yet (going at easter), I am hoping they will charge the same when I check out.
It does say price in pounds and euros, you pay in euros when you check out, I have a nationwide card so don't mind paying in euros.
The only thing I was worried about was the thomson price was really cheap compared to other sites, so I hope I don't get charged more when I check out.

As long as you have that written confirmation of the price cant see that the hotel would charge you any different :tup

Thanks Mollie

That's what I am worried about as well. :think It's a lot cheaper than other sites for the hotel I am considering. It gives the pound price & the Euro price presumably based on the exchange rate on the day you book. I assume that as it's then a confirmed booking that is the price we will pay, so any changes in exchange rates from then on are not relevant. (I hope).

It's odd that the helpline said any problems give them a ring when you get back, as by then presumably you will have sorted them out yourself.

Have you got the price detailed on the accommodation voucher that I'm assuming they send as confirmation of the booking?

Doe,

Yes you get an confirmation email, called a booking confirmation voucher.
It says outstanding balance in £ & euros on the confirmation email, it does say (The pound sterling equivalent may vary in line with currency conversion exchange rate on date of payment), so I suppose it may vary by a few euros depending on the exchange rate. The amount you pay is the euro total.

Thanks again Mollie

Your post is really helpful and answers my query. It explains that the price isn't held at the same price as it is on the day you book.

It will probably only be a few Euros different depending on the rate on the day you settle your bill, but I just wanted to know if it was a confirmed price as at date of booking and it isn't.

Have a great holiday.

I think the price in euro's is confirmed, but the £ price can change. Mine says 160 euro's to pay and £108, which is not quite right.

I guess that's good as it means your price wont change. Mine is odd.

On page 1 of the search, I can book the hotel on HB for 852 pounds, all to be paid now.

On page 2 of the search I can book the same hotel B&B, which is what I want, for 837.90 Euros which is 569.66 pounds, but with nothing to pay until checking out of hotel.

I don't understand all these different booking arrangements for different boards.
Did you have to give them your card details, I can see a place for them?
