The only sharks are the sellers and they are not too bad, but she will probably see dolphins swimming fairly close to the beach :ghug

Lin b, You have just made my day :D I was hoping my mother was wrong, so I can venture out into the sea a little further than my ankles, it would be even better with the dolphins.
Thanks Lin b

In the last year there has been an increase in dolphins, and we have seen them frequently fairly close in on, candolim beach its really nice to see them in their natural habitat, you don't really need to do the dolphin trip anymore, but its still fun to go out on a speedboat and see the dolphins, prison ect

Thanks SteveM,
If there on the dinner plate, then surely they must be closeby!!! :yikes
I love eating fish, but never tried a shark, not so sure, I would really want to, but when I'm in Goa, who knows I might give it a taste.

hi paulas :wave , as lin b said go out on a boat to see the dolphins, they are great to see, then you see the big house on the side of a hill-very nice indeed, then not to far away the prison-not very nice indeed, you may see the inmate's waving through the cell windows, very sad, BUT remember thay must have done something wrong to be there in the first place. I was told there are some british men/women in there and the conditions are awful, i bet they wish they were in a british prison but there again they should behave on their travel's, have a great holiday...Gavin 8)

Hi gavin,
Thanks for your info....I will go out in a boat to see the dolphins, not so sure I will swim with them, but I will enjoy watching them. How long is the boat trip, is it an all day experience :?:

Paula the trip lasts just over half a day with a bbq on cocoa beach (johns boat tours in candolim) costs around £8 all in.

You wont be able to swim with the dolphins on the boat tour and i certainly wouldnt recommend swimming out from the beach due to the currents etc.

Gavin the house is owned by a diamond dealer called jimmy. He is getting loads of grief about it and has had to tear some of it down as it breaches the local building regs with it being built so close to the sea. However he has been paying off the local goverment to keep it.

2003 the prison held around 30 europeans all for drugs offences, so you really need to be careful if you are offered anything. As one time was in palolem some guy come up to me and whipped out a bag of hash asked if i smoked said no, he said good and walked away. Turned out he was a copper and if i bought any of him would have ended up in the clink.

Forget the sharks its the sea snakes you have to watch for.

dont worry about nasties in the sea - far more likely to come to grief on the roads of the uk. this is from someone who spent years living & swimming in the seas of west australia where they do have sharks & did have a fatal attack quite recently...........

Sorry to hear that, can you tell us more.

Hi Taxitaxi,
thank you for your reply....you say sea snakes :yikes never thought of the possibility of encountering one of them, are they in the shallow waters?....I only go in the sea to my knees.... I've always been too afraid of going out any further because I'm afraid of what may lurk in the sea. I think I will stay on the beach and just look at the sea now!!! :sulk

Hi tolon,
Yes I've seen the reports about the excess bagage and I think its really unfair. I shall make sure my case isn't over weight before I leave the hotel.

Hi PaulaS
Don't want to scare you but when I was in Goa last December I saw quite a few dead sea snakes washed up on the beach. It didn't put me off going in the sea though , I'm a real water babe. I think you're more at risk from the large waves and strong undercurrents that you find at a few of the beaches in Goa.
Re the sharks. The biggest of these must be the tour reps trying to flog those trips at highly inflated prices. Keep hold of your money and arrange them yourself.

Have fun and don't be afraid of what lies beneath :yikes

Thank you for your reply big-knicker-shaz,

Are the sea snakes dangerous at all?

Hmm. Not doing well with this answer really  could have opened a can of snakes, sorry worms. Bad news on both counts I'm afraid. Most sea snakes are highly venomous although fatalities from sea snake bites are extremely rare. As far as the water being clear, well again the Arabian sea isn't know for its calm waters so you can't always see whats around you. Please don't worry though, I've been swimming in those waters for years and nothing untoward has happened to me.
Just enjoy what Goa has to offer.
