Hi there
my daughter is going on holiday to Cancun very soon. She has a real phobia with crabs
and is worried about going onto the beach or into the sea in case she encounters any.
Does anyone know whether there are likely to be any on the beach or in the sea on the hotel beach.
Its better if she knows in advance as could spoil her holiday!!!!!
Most Caribbean beaches have a population of crabs that burrow in to the sand. You'll see little holes close to the shoreline, above the tidal limit where they hide during the day. If the beach is busy, you'll generally not see them until things are quieter in the early morning or later in the evening. You'll see them throwing sand out of their holes, doing a bit of housework! You'll not see any in the sea unless you go looking for them on a rocky patch and even then, probably not.
