I'm not sure what time the Bureau de Change closes at Monastir as I always have some dinars left over from previous trips when I arrive. You have a couple of options if not: I believe there is an ATM at the airport but can't remember exactly where, failing which you could tell the taxi driver that you only have sterling and ask if that is acceptable. Alternatively you could ask him to stop at an ATM and take out about 20 dinars to start you off (ATMs are everywhere). Finally, depending on where you are flying from, you may be able to get some currency at the airport in the UK. I know the TTT BdC at Stansted does it but it's not worth changing more than £20 as you don't get a good rate. 10 dinars is probably about right as it's only a very short trip but prices go up in the evening and no doubt you will be too tired to haggle hard. I'd be inclined to offer 8 to start with.

Incidentally you will find Tunisia very different to Spain. :sun2

:think aslemma can maybe help you further with this but you could consider using a prebooked & paid transfer with Medhotels, you don't have to have booked your hotel with them, http://www.medhotels.com/transfer/tr_viewprice_search.asp?Lang=EN

some more info on this here

It's certainly an option Kiltman. I didn't suggest it because Skanes is a very short distance from the airport so it would almost certainly be quicker to jump in a cab than hang around waiting for Med-Hotels' mini-bus, especially at that time of night. Med Hotels are cheap and reliable, and I'll be using them again from Tunis to Sousse next month, but for shorter journeys I usually get a taxi (and an early start with my haggling).

The Sahara Beach Hotel is not listed in the transfer list of Medhotels and as it is so close to the airport I would think a taxi is the best way to get to the hotel.

I know it isn't listed Gert-Jan, but you and I both know what miracles the offer of a tip can perform. I do agree though that it isn't worth while from Monastir to Skanes.

I would expect there to be at least one of the change desks open (even at that time) but there are a couple of cash machines in the airport. It's not so big that finding them will be an issue. I recall they are to the right of the stairs leading up to departures. I have arrived late at night and been able to change money. There are several change desks in the baggage collection hall.

That's what we're here for my friend. I'll be out a couple of days after you but staying in Sousse for a couple of weeks and flying into Tunis with BA (which is where Med Hotels come in handy for transfer). Incidentally the weather should be excellent then, as it won't be quite so hot as it's been recently - some of the ex pat community have been finding it almost unbearable. Hope you have a lovely holiday and if you need any more tips please don't hesitate to ask. :sun2
