I have been for the day when I visited Aruba on a cruise and have to agree that from what I did see it is lovely and very clean. Aruba is the smallest and most western island of the Dutch Antilles and is just off the coast of Venezuela. We visited the capital Oranjestad and went to Palm Beach which was beautiful and very clean.
The people there are amongst the most friendly and welcoming you'll find anywhere and it really is like a little piece of heaven.
My experience of Aruba is out of date by about 25 years!
When I worked on the QE2 it was one of my favourite islands, mainly because is was not commercialised like so many of the others on our itineraries.
Now the kids are grown up it is one of the places on my "must do this with the wife" list. Hope it has not been spoiled by the time I get there again.....will watch for your update on return.

Thanks for the replies...I am so taken aback with the beauty of this island..I am just a little unsure as it looks very cancunish in the brochure...I have also learnt that it is a time share island for the US so not sure how busy it will be....but it is on my short list for summer next year along with Margarita and Mexico Riviera Maya and Cozumel
I got a late deal last sep and it was just amazing.
We stopped at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, this is only a 3 star and I didn't have one complaint, the room were spot on, the food good and the sea, well what can I say..... I'll be going back.
Off to Aruba in June and cannot wait. Got the holiday from First Choice and staying at the Tamarijn but up graded so we can use the Divi will let you know what it is like when we get back
We stayed at the Radisson which has the prime location and has the most amazing free form pools. One of the hotels, i think either the Wyndham or the Hyatt will set you a table on the beach for a romantic dinner for two.
Best restaurants. Madame Janettes and Le Dome.
I'm looking at this destination for July 2006. They've got it on sale with First Choice and Eclipse. I usually book on line any comments would be welcome. Thanks.
Aruba is also quite Americanised......which may be other a plus or a minus for you....but thought I'd let you know!
We were very close to booking the Bucuti Beach Resort for our honeymoon a few years ago but things like the high rises and McDonalds put us off in the end.
Gorgeous looking beaches though!

we're going next year in june for two weeks and im already excited .
anyone been to the Tamarijn on druif beach?
My fiance and I have booked our honeymoon in Aruba for next August
(chose this island as it looks the least likely to be affected by hurricanes!) plus the beaches look wonderful. I'm just wondering if anyone has been there and if you have any advice as to what to see and do, or what weather to expect. We will be staying in the (what will be) completely refurbished Occidental Grande Aruba Hotel. So if anyone knows it i'd love to hear from you. I've never been outside of European resorts before so im curious to know what it will be like in comparison! It sounds lovely and romantic i just hope it is. Also as this will be a package holiday, does that limit our chances of things like 'free upgrades' on rooms or flights as honeymooners? Not that i mind i'm just looking forward to it, but i'm curious!
thanks for any info!
Rachel

Also booked for next August. Would love to hear if anyone has been to Tamarijn lately and if ground floor or 1st floor rooms are best?
I found http://www.wunderground.com a great site as you can view the weather reports for previous years choosing to enter your own date.
Unsure of which hotel we will be going to yet but if anyone has any suggestions that would be great,
Thanks

We have booked for Aruba with FC for 2007. Been looking at the local tourist stuff and they have a place called Paradise Island which sounds good and they also do SNUBA diving wich looks interesting. They don't however, have any prices listed, does anyone have any ideas as to what the cost is?
Does anyone know why First Choice only do holidays to Aruba after Spring?? I want to go in March/April but they don't seem to do packages then....I just wondered why??
Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Aruba, the Radisson one looks good, but rather expensive. I cant see many hotels for under 2500 for 2 weeks how much should i be looking to pay, and is Aruba nice, ive heard it is gorgeous.
