i'm the manger of a pub & on friday,i had 2 women come in.one came to the bar & one sat down.
the woman asked me,how much a cup of coffee was,so i told her 99p,she then asked me,how much a large cup was,so i told her £1.39,so she asked for a large one.
she then waited for me,to move away & asked one of the staff, for an extra cup & saucer.she then went over to her friend & they proceeded to share the cup of coffee,by tipping half into, the other cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i swear,i would not show myself up,to save a few pence.i was gobsmacked!
i don't drink alot of cofee,but only like nescafe,so asking for hot water,would actually make sure,i could have a cup,i enjoy,as i always refuse it,as i know i won't like it.would i dare ask,no i wouldn't.

Perhaps this is why XL went bust when I was working for them...I was giving away too much hot water! lol
Well, I think I might try it next time, hope TC don't go bust when most of the passengers on my flight (after reading this thread) take their own coffee/tea
I'm tempted to take my 3 in 1 nescafe sachet and a mug and ask for hot water,I have paid for a meal but hate their coffee.
i don't think i would ask for hot water on a plane to make my own, in order to save purchasing a hot drink, i think that is penny pinching a bit too much.
I'd b saving the airline money, because I've already paid for my coffee in the price of my meal!!!
The only thing with those sachet things is theres never enough milk!
I'd ask for hot water on the flight for my coffee, only because I don't like the coffee they serve, it's always too weak! The tea's no better!
Well seeing as SOME airlines .... guess who ... won't even give you a bit of cold everyday boring tap water to take tablets with, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they refused a cup of hot water to make a drink with .....
I was told that this was against their health and safety rules but I could buy a hot cup of tea for £3 and use this to heat up the bottle.
I declined this kind offer, the baby had the milk cold with no ill affects and I kept the £3. We fly with this airline nearly every month I have never bought a drink nor food, scratchcards etc since.
On the same flight a lady asked for a small cup of cold water so that she could take some medication, again this wasnt possible but she could but a bottle of water instead for a couple of pound - she refused.
I appreciate this is a business and if they do it for one maybe the remaining 180+ passengers would want the same.
Chris
If we buy hot/cold drinks on a certain airline surely the use of a toilet should be free . It will be interesting to hear the outcome of asking for a cup of hot water . What airline are you flying with ?
anything would be better than the inch and a half of supposed to be tea we had on our flight from aberdeen to majorca last year was charged for the so called meal by thomson using an airline, the ham roll was no bigger than two fifty pences so complained and got our money refunded as lady beside us had not been charged anything. so yes, why not ask for hot water it is very good for your digestion anyway. your own teabags are usually better anyway. xphx
TFS1: Which airline is it that won't provide hot water for heating bottle for babies? I hope it's not the one I'm flying with next Friday.
It's the one we are flying with this Saturday to Spain and the one we fly with on a regular basis - its good old Ryanair !
I think that a cup of tea probably now 'only' costs £2.70 due to the €/£ rate.
We have resisted the temptation to buy drinks or anything on board for some time and like many others buy a couple of bottles of water in Boots (airside) for about £1.50.
Good luck with your flight.
Regards, Chris
We're flying with Easyjet who say that they are prepared to provide water to heat bottles for babies. Am hoping that the girls will have been fed at the airport rather than feed them during the flight. H will take bottle at or just below room temperature but S won't and guess which one has the loudest and high pitched hunger cry.
Easyjet charge £1.90 for a cup of tea (that was 2 weeks ago) - just in case they have changed their 'free hot water' policy !!!
Enjoy, relax, chill.
Chris
Regarding cold water, some people may not be aware we do not have a 'tap' onboard. Our hot water comes straight out of the boilers, and the taps in the galleys have signs saying 'not for consumption'. Same with the taps in the toilet. And again I can't give a bottle of water out when it will come out of my wages.
People don't realise that airlines aren't there for your convenience, they are here to make money. When some passengers have probably paid around a £10 for their flight they need to realise that the company is not making any money on that at all. If you don't want to purchase anything from the bar then don't, but please don't moan to me about the prices or the lack of free items, if you would like free hot water then go with an airline that will give you that, again the price for this will be reflected in the fare, so technically I wouldn't call it 'free'!
Thank you chelle_375 for an honest and informative answer.
That's what I've been trying to tell them! It's a pity so few people understand economics, when your flight costs less than the taxi to the airport you can't expect Concorde levels of service.
