Athens - flights now booked! Need hotel advice!!

I live in Bristol and am looking to visit Athens with a friend for between 3 and 7 days in the beginning of June.

The only flights I can see though are £250+!!!!

We are willing to go from Cardiff, Bristol, London, etc.

I have seen how cheap the packages are to the islands though and I wondered if it is easy, cheap, quick to get a boat/flight from some of the islands to Athens??

Or whether anybody knows of a handy website to check for cheaper flights/package in Athens.

I have tried the usual teletext/opodo/lastminute.

I thought it would be fairly simple and cheap to get there!!!

Athens - best way to get there

Hi Jaymx, We stayed on Zante and went to Athens through a Local Tour Operator. It was an overnight thing and well worth the money spent. Yes, IT WAS easy !! Also, well organised.

Don't see the problem....check the websites for each airline.
Athens.
EasyJet around £185 from Gatwick/Luton - Athens at the moment.
Even £127 from British Airways Hrow/Gat!!!!.
These are both returns.

easyJet Gatwick / Athens return start of June cheapest £225.69 per person

If you are able to go from the evening 6th June and return on 13th June the flight would be £128.10 per person with BA from London Heathrow.

It's very easy to get the ferry from most ot the islands to Athens.Just go to the island with the cheapest package price that is nearest to Athens.Alternatively book a holiday to Tolon which is only two hours drive from Athens.

Thank you for your replies...the cheapest I can now see is £168 return from Heathrow with Olympic..this was through Opodo. I couldn't find the BA deal that was cheaper but maybe I was too late.

I will book it tomorrow and get a hotel separately.

Any recommendations for hotels in Athens??

Thank you everybody for your help. We are going with Olympic from the 6th-13th It was £168 return!

If anybody has some good recommendations of hotels or restaurants/bars, I would appreciate it.

We used this agency for a recent fly-drive in Greece. They are reliable and have some hotels in central Athens:

While in Athens, we ate at a restaurant called Sholario in the Plaka area on Tripodon Street - http://www.sholarhio.gr/english/index.php The place has no menu, the waiter brings a big tray of dishes and you just point to the ones you want. They are all priced between 2.50 and 5 euros. For 6 dishes, drinks and a free dessert it cost us 31.50 euros.
