Can anyone tell me how to measure for the correct size awning? I have a porch one for mine but mum and dad are wanting to get a full awning for the season?
Thanks
with the van on level ground
take a piece of string and thread it through the awning rail and measure from the ground to the ground front and back then mark it off
measure the length of string and that's the awning size precisely
Alternatively any GOOD caravan dealer will have a book that tells you the awning size for the 'van in question for which ever make of awning your parents want the sizes sometimes are different by different makers as they don't do awning to fit just one van but most are compromises
We use our awning but most of the time I have to do it alone as Steph's' busy putting the kettle on
Awnings are really awkward at times so many different makers do so many different sizes you have to sometimes get one that is too large to fit nicely or even too small
We now tend to use the roof as a sunshade with one side as a wind-break
I have there porch awning for mine, although it took me about 4 hours to put that together so mum and dads awning might take me all season
Going to go check out that web site thanks briar
To put up our Full awning take me about 1/2 an hour on my own a lot quicker when Steph deigns to help me
1/2 an hour I think I will be asking everyone on my site to give me a hand
Best thing to do is have a prectise at home
work out the frame first and get some coloured tape to mark which end goes into which bit a common trick but it really does work
then awning roof first
frame in
get the corners sorted and peg LIGHTLY
put the sides on
then check and tightly peg the corners
peg the rest from there
It's the frame I got stuck with so a practise at home is a good idea thanks for the tip.
Cheers I will make a note of the sequence you give for putting the awning up, and as long as the neighbours bring me a glass of wine I won't mind
Remember I do mine alone and I've got a realy duff back that's how I got the title the Madcaravanner
WE are at Rowntree Park 27-29th of this month presuming it's not flooded
IF you see a caravan with one blue and one burgandy annex come say hello. I will be so chuffed that I had managed to pull it off in the end
ps. some awnings quote size as height from ground to awning rail in cms or inches as mine did

SNIPPED
the old caravans are lower and have more of a curved top
Tell me our OLD van had a boat roof and a mustange style hump so NO awning would fit precisely the one we have now
Pageant Champagne has a slope from just behind the side window so the front of the awning is lower than the back by 2 inches but for some reason it looks worse
The lady at the shop where I bought it said as long as I had atleast 9ft of fairly straight awning rail it would be fine...but proof will be in the pudding.
I think I will put a new post on asking if any one else has had one the same
