Friends/colleagues of mine always ask me why I return to my beloved Barbados on a regular basis and why we don't choose other destinations.
To us holidays are important. We work hard each year and are only given so many days holiday allowance per year by our employers.
For that reason, we want to play it safe. We know what we get in Barbados so we are reasonably sure our holiday is just what we want. No nasty surprises - just quality time together.
What about you? Do you like to go back to your favourite resort/hotel or are you the adventurous type and try something different each year.
Mark
our main holiday for the last 10 years has been on the island of zante
we always stay in a little resort called alykes
but we do try and stay in diffrent accomodation each year
also for the last 3 years our january hols have been to benidorm again staying in diffrent accomodation
we try to go to a new destination each year- but also return to favourites each year too. Trouble is- we've too many favourites now
Athough having just been to New York I know we'll be back there and I'm going back to the same resort we stayed in on Kefalonia next month while my hubby is off on his biking holiday (that's because I wanted somewhere I'd feel safe on my own and that I knew) but our attitude is usually there are so many places that we want to see and sooo little time.
I don't condone anyone who goes back to the same place each year as you say Mark - we work bloomin' hard all year and our holidays should be perfect - it's just not for me.
Funnily enough- when we were younger we did go to the same place every year. We went to Tsilivi 5 years running. We loved it. I wonder if it is an age thing? Also I can imagine those with young family may find that once they find the ideal hotel complete with enough to keep both adults and kids happy they are more than happy to return!
It's Lagos in the western Algarve for us every year;we fell in love with the town the first time we saw it. Although we do still 'experiment' with new destinations from time to time, our main holiday is always Lagos. We know the town and its surrounding areas like the backs of our hands so don't waste time getting our bearings and we count many Portuguese as well as ex-Pat Brits in the town as good friends after nineteen years - it really is like a second home to us.
....I'd love some please,Fiona - just spread some fruity sauce on it and put it on a round of wholemeal bread please !!!Are you getting spam via your pm? Click here to let us know and we can do something about it
Just returned from Benidorm for the fifth time in a row, the bairn loves it. Change of scene next year, Cyprus, bit apprehensive.
Going back to the dominican republic, same hotel as last year (gran ventana) because we had such a fab time last year!
We go to the Dominican Republic or Cuba each year, every now and then we go to tunisia, but are too scared to try anywhere else in the caribbean because we love cuba and dom rep so much.
Having a change in July!!!!!!!! still avoiding all of us
But seriously------I think if you find something that suits you-----then thats ideal
Mind you-------last year went back to Tunisia after about 14yrs and although it was OK------never would go again!!!
First time I have ever done that , excellent holiday both times and I would go back like a shot .. but the worlds a big place..

We have been going to menorca for nearly 10 years now, and the thought of not going there one year makes me sad!!!
Back in the early 90's we went to Ayia Napa in Cyprus every year for 5 years, absoluteley loved it , then all of a sudden it got ruined the 18-30 , garage scene took over and we moved on, we then fell in love with Ko Samui and went 4 years running, that too got ruined and I will not be returning, now the big love of my life is Goa and I just hope it doesn't go the same way.
Been to Tenerife twice, but with a 5 year gap in between, completely different holiday experience when the kids are 5 years older; going back again next Easter, just because short haul destinations are limited in March.
Had a lovely holiday in Majorca when the kids were very young and I'd love to go back, but there are so many other places I'd like to see too!
I'd like to see other places too but the way I see it is it's an awful lot of money to pay to go somewhere that isn't enjoyable/nice/clean etc! At the end of the day you've only really got brochures and other peoples reviews to go on when booking for somewhere new and what is 5* for one person could be 2* for another!
We too can only afford one holiday abroad each year so if you like a place why not, hope we like Cyprus
I dont mind going back to the same place cause you will know what to expect etc but new places are good aswell!
Also I can imagine those with young family may find that once they find the ideal hotel complete with enough to keep both adults and kids happy they are more than happy to return!
Yes, good point Fiona. Maybe I'd feel the same if we had children.
Sometimes we feel a bit guilty and think perhaps we should try other places (actually we have we've been to the Med, Canaries Caribbean, Africa, the Americas and while enjoyable not so many buttons were pressed). Our short summer breaks tend to be last minute affairs so we are flexible regarding destination although we seem to have ended up in the Algarve for our last three sumer breaks
we have returned many times to the Canaries but now we have decided to spread our wings a little..so we explore one new destination a year..and if we can afford it, for our second break we return to the canaries!!
