Hi, after much consideration we are thinking of staying in Baga this time (was going for Arpora but looks too out of the way). think it will be a better base for travelling around. We went to Goa first time last year and we loved the Candolim area. However it was slightly too quiet of a night time . Can anyone recommend some decent bars with a bit of music for our age group (early 50's.) Dont really like trance /rave stuff but like a live band etc.
Thanks

Calangute is a good place as a base somewhere between St Anthonys Chapel and the stone temple(osborne hotel, resorte de tio carmino ,just a couple in that area),

Mayonna Creek used to be good for live music and it's pretty handy for Baga. Just cross the bridge, turn right and it's on your left.
Sunday nights were always good - any visiting musicians could have a go. Some were average but some were seriously good.

Thanks for that info, will try them all out.
Went to Jambalaya , not really our type of thing, but was busy and good atmosphere. x

Would those areas be recommended for us in our 60's? Has given me something to think about when we go next March. We were thinking of staying the whole 4 weeks down south Goa around Colva area as that is what we know best. never really ventured anywhere else. maybe we could do 2 weeks in calangute or wherever up there and 2 weeks down south-- any suggestions please. thanks, Pete

I don't really think it's about age, Pete. It's more about what you want from a holiday. We're (just) in our sixties and love the hustle and bustle of North Goa. It's a bit crazy at times but there's always something going on.
We had a few nights in South Goa last year and really enjoyed it but it's sooo much more quiet than Candolim/Calangute/Baga. It's a bit too quiet for us to spend a whole holiday there but great to "escape" to.
If you like peace and quiet, South Goa is maybe a better choice, although there are plenty of places, away from the main honeytraps in North Goa, where you can get away from it all.

Yes, I take your point Roma. I guess I have such a liking for Colva area as it was where I first went back in mid 70's. All the Hippies went up north!!
have seen this place just near Bogamolo beach outside Vasco da Gama. Wondering what you think, locationwise etc.

It looks good and the prices are pretty good, too.
I don't know Bogmalo but maybe other HTers will have been there and can give more information.
