anybody been?
We are thinking of booking for August next year a wooden bungalow but need to be sure that it is one of the quietest areas on the site as apparently there is an off site disco into early hours!
There are cottages available in a different area(mobile homes) which may be an option if quieter.
Is the campsite safe etc and can anyone recommend it or have any tips?
Thanks
We went to Baia Domizia with Eurocamp last year. Had the misfortune to be located almost as close to the disco as it was possible to be, the noise was extremely loud from where we were and continued until the early hours, most unpleasant. The disco faces the camp from the road, it's almost opposite the entrance so if you do decide to go, ensure that any accommodation you book is well away from it. I have a feeling the wooden huts are away from it so you could well be okay in them.
The campsite itself is a strange place. For a couple of hours in the early afternoon they have an enforced siesta - the shops and swimming pool all close, and no vehicles or bikes allowed to be used during that time. The swimming pool shuts well before 7pm every night too, so no good if you get back hot and dusty any later! Very strict swimming cap rule in the pool, didn't bother us but 2 self conscious teenage girls in the party wouldn't even dip a toe, lol.
The evening entertainment was hilarious.....shame it wasn't actually meant to be
I'm making it sound like we had an awful time, it wasn't all that bad, I just couldn't recommend it and wouldn't go back. The staff were mostly friendly and the campsite was clean and secure. Lots of mozzies, as there's a river nearby. Lots and lots of ants too, they get absolutely everywhere.
Baia Domizia village itself is not one of Italy's nicest seaside towns, I'd liken it to Yarmouth!! It's rundown and dirty.
We spent a lot of time in nearby Formia and Gaeta, much nicer.
I should stress that this is a personal opinion based on our likes and dislikes - we did speak to a lot of people that didn't have these criticisms, although another family who left just after we arrived said they'd done a 3 centre italian holiday with Eurocamp and the other camps had been lovely while this one was awful.
Hi Addy, thanks for your reply which was really useful. Your comments seem to reflect other reviews and since Baia Domizia and Eurocamp have not responded to our concerns, we intend to look further afield. Shame because the area looks really great- scenery, culture etc.
Hi Nico! Yes, the area is lovely, we had a great time otherwise. Visited Rome and Pompei, there was a waterpark a few miles up the road. We'd go back anytime, just not to Baia Domizia
