I wonder how Sticky Vicky will be portrayed next week? will have to record it as we will be in Benidorm.
When is the programme on and does anyone know if the past programmes are repeated please.
I guess you are talking about Pedro Zaragoza Orts. ?
ColinWWW is correct, Benidorm as we love it today would not exist.
He was a young mayor with a vision and had to ride on his moped to Madrid to request an audience with Franco and then convince the dictator that tourism was the way forward for Spain and lifting the bikini ban was one giant step that the catholic church in Spain did not approve of, therefore his actions and persistance with Franco, who was not a man who was easily persuaded to do anything, was a great achievement in moulding the future of Spain and taking the country out of the isolated state in Europe that the country existed in.
He put into place a city planning order that ensured every building would have some "green" area around it, otherwise Benidorm would look like Manhattan with buildings shoulder to shoulder.
To some people, Benidorm is a jungle of ill designed skyscrapers, but that is far from the truth and to insist that the Avda Mediterraneo was made wide, despite the objections of landowners etc, just shows how great this young mayors vision was for Benidorm, when at the time there were no more than 7 cars in the town.
Sanjiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I think matthews dolly girl just wanted to be featured on the programme.
I think it was the girl who worked behind the bar in Valentines????? Forgive me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and Sticky Vicky was mentioned as a " magician"
I do remember you supplying a link to an article about Pedro Zaragoza Orts, a long time ago and it was most interesting.
As you are a lover of Benidorm I dont think you would have found this programme very good, I didn't. It concentrates on the Ambassador hotel and Neil St John the singer. Next week it is to feature Sticky Vicky, the Rich Bitch and the Queen Hotel.
The programme is on Wednesday 10.30, I dont know if it is repeated.
Sue

I thought it was on at 10pm. Well that's the time I set the DVD recorder for last night, same as last week.
The programme seems to be concentrating on just one Hotel in Benidorm and a small selection of 'Entertainers' in the Resort. Last night's episode included several scenes that were almost identical to the first episode....ie the towels on sunloungers practice, and an identical scene of one entertainer getting up in the morning.
As David says, the programme is not to be confused with the other programme in that this programme is a sort of 'fly on the wall' documentary but in my humble opinion the producers have missed out on a big opportunity and their programme does nothing to show Benidorm in a good light to potential first time visitors, but that said, and in all fairness I do not think it tarnishes the resort.
I doubt I will tune in next week because of a certain person it is believed to be featuring.
Incidentally, the first two episodes have been broadcast at 10.00pm (22.00hrs - GMT) on ITV1 in the Uk.
As usual, this series is presenting Benidorm in a less than favourable light! Showing the reality - a majority of ordinary holidaymakers doing normal things wouldn't make such interesting viewing though would it??
So it should I stand corrected and my apologies for any confusion.I think that should be 22.00Hrs BST.

Aww right, thanks Sue.
Another tick tacky attempt
If they'd concentrate just for once on the real Benidorm's history and culture it might enlighten some people....including some who make a living out of Benidorm
Maybe that is too much like hard work though, when you can walk around the resort filming ex-pats and wannabees wanting 2 minutes stardom, for next to nothing.
If they are featuring the Rich Bitch, Queens Hotel etc.....I 'll go watch the paint dry instead, it'll be more exciting.
Sanjiiiiiiii
I believe that was meant to be the general idea of the programme and indeed that is how it was advertised, but from what I have seen in the two episodes to date, that is not what is being shown in the programme.Sanji wrote:If they'd concentrate just for once on the real Benidorm's history and culture it might enlighten some people....including some who make a living out of Benidorm
It is coming across more as an advert for one particular Hotel.
I dont think anyone could call what has been shown so far as an advert for the ambassador, if anything it would put me off that hotel forever
Best Regards - Taggy
i personally think that if you listened to every bad report about hotels resorts etc we wouldnt go anywhere
We were at the ambassador last year and have booked again for next year... we think it is a great hotel...
its there 15 mins of fame who wouldnt want that .as for my old friend tony
the entertainer man as hes called there could be a exercise video in it for you only joking tony.but why cant some company film a program
about benidorm the real benidorm the one we all love. and keep coming back for.instead of this .to all people involved i wish you all the best .
but just remember as you sit in the sun every day wishing the spaniards would go away .its there country try and mingle into spain not little britain like this program is making out it is
Same here scully ... Was there in july going again for new year and again next july cant wait .. mazza
Hear hear went last august then this july and going again next may been to a lot of differant places but must admit we love benidorm (and we try and speak a little bit more spanish every time tend to find they appreciate that more )
I have never stayed at the Ambassador, but I have never heard a bad word yet off friends of ours who have stayed there, its in a great location for night life and the beach,we always stay at the Villa de Benidorm just over the road from the Ambassador,at what time of the morning did they film the cabaret acts!!!,we go every year in March and you have to be in these clubs before 9pm if you want a seat, they all get packed!!!!.b
