As before when this question is asked I would definitely say open a Nationwide Flexaccount.

No worries about carrying either cash or travellers cheques and a great rate when you come back home. We got 84/85 last year when it was about 81/82 in the resort.

Plus of course, no commission to pay :)

Thanks Jinty

But opening current account means I need to pay my wages into it, but sadly with my main bank the Natwest I have a high interest saving accounts with which I store all my money to pay my Bills, Holidays, car savings which i can transfer my money back to my current account instantly, If i change to Nationwide I would loose the facility as it takes 3 days between banks for some reason. All this is doen every month via a standing order.

So even though your advice about the Nationwide is correct, I don't believe it's the answer for me!, sadly I wish I could move all of my accounts but the nationwide online baking is not that good.

I am looking for the best place on the Protras strip which constanlty has the best rates wiht no commison.

Thanks again.

@ Jinty.... im guessing you just kept your money in bank account and withdrew it when you were over in cyprus? as i asked in my nationwide branch for exchange and they dont do currency in it....

they did however give me a number to ring to get currency sorted

Yes, it was excellent. This is the 4th time we have used it and it's great not having to 'hide' my money around the apartment.....

Must admit I also have the N/W internet banking and find it really good, with instant transfers and good rates on the internet saving account.

Don't know if it was the best but I changed money at the car rental place on the strip between the Constantinos the Great and the Vrissiana last year.

I used to work over there (but was paid into Eng account) and still visit regularly. I always withdraw from the banks with my card and find I get a much better rate than changing money over either here or there. I am with HSBC. Although there is a small charge (£1.75 I think) to withdraw, I normally take at least £100 out at a time so the charge works out less than I'd end up paying in commission. I was out there in Dec and did change a little over beforehand, and found, yet again this was a mistake as the rate was much better from the cashpoint.

i have tried all different ways of getting my currency over the years, last time i was in Protaras the cash machine said my pin number was invalid, which it wasnt, so i had to ring the Halifax and they could not sort it, i ended up taking my card and passport into the bank and doing it that way. I cant be bothered with travellers cheques, being charged for changing each one. A few days before i go i will take cash for the two weeks, and just put it in the safety deposit box, my insurance covers me for 750 cash, so i find this the best way for me, each to their own.
