My boyfriend and I had our first visit to Goa, last December. We stayed at the Marinha Dourada and loved every minute. As soon as we got back I started to look at prices, but as we were about to buy a house decided to wait. How sorry are we now, as the price has doubled!
We want to go back to the Marinha Dourada again this December, but do we book the holiday now, or try and wait last minute to see if it becomes any cheaper?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Hope this helps
I'll try the interenet tonight and I'll call my travel agents tomorrow, to see what price I can find.
Someone on this forum told me that the holiday companies monitor the internet interest in their holidays and if there's a lot of interest in a particular weeks they put their prices up, this makes a lot of sense and certainly seems to be true of the dates I was looking at.

Yeah, Ive the same thing with prices going up on the date I was looking at and have found this several times before. Trouble is, I check the prices regularly to see if they're coming down and on First Choice website you can check how many rooms are left at your desired hotel so you know if you really want that hotel, you need to book if there are only a couple of rooms left.
Any way. Thomas Cook are sold out for the dates we wanted in December, Thomson only fly via Birmingham (no good as we are in Manchester), So the only other tour operator available was First Choice. Which I've booked today , we have paid a lot more than £350 each (which I could have booked it for in January) but thats what I get for listening to my boyfriend!
Hi TT glad you got booked Did you book the Marinha Dourada again? (its the best hotel, isnt it). What dates are you going?
I don't know what's going on this year - although I've been told the charter flights have been cut but prices are loads more than normal -I too am paying £200 more than I normally do (not happy!). It's up to you usually early dec eg 1 -5 is cheap then around 16 april for f/o but looking at everything looks like they are being snapped up! up to you = Goa or the Canaries!
Could be all the extra taxes and supplements that have been added. On average there's a £60 departure tax from UK, a £40 fuel surcharge and now a £20 green tax. Some are also charging a security tax. I've also had lots of e mails back from hotels and guesthouses and their prices have rocketed for nexy year . Marinha D want 4000 rupees a night for a single room.......
i booked in may this year for next march with thomas cook for easter and got a really good deal
I think we're going to have to try and get a last minute deal, we can't afford the prices they're charging at the moment. I should have booked when I looked in April but I didn't have the money to pay for it then, so what do you do?!!
Yeah I managed to book the Marinha Dourada, its the only hotel we wanted to go to, after hearing all the horror stories around the pool last year.
I booked from the 3 December 2007 - 18 December 2007 and after haggling managed to get it down to £1300 for two adults. I managed to get the extra 5kgs of luggage and seats sitting together on the plane included in this price.
As an extra treat I also booked the executive lounge at the airport.
I didn't want to chance getting a last minute deal because I would have been so upset if I couldn't get in this hotel.
