Can anyone tell me the best way to go about booking trips? Is it best to do it before you go, or is it cheaper to do it when you get there? Kids looking to do the eco-park, horse-riding and whatever else you might suggest?
MANY THANKS!!!
We booked all the trips with the rep when we arrived. (Dolphin discovery, Chichen Itza, Pirate cruise and Xcaret)
They were all freely available to book with a choice of days on which to go.
I am glad we did it this way. We had booked the Dolphin swim, and the day before we were due to go my sister had a really bad upset tummy We just went and saw the rep and he rearranged it for a few days later. Not sure we could have done this had we booked over the net!
It really is your choice and I did think about booking before hand but am glad I didn't.
Have a lovely time.

Thanks for that information. You are never really sure what to do for the best - so this is really helpful.
If you dont mind me asking - what sort of prices should we be expecting to pay for the trips?
My advice would be to avoid booking with your Rep altogether and instead use a local tour operator (which resort are you going to? If it's Cancun there's loads around, all very good). It'll save you a fortune.
I agree we booked with Companies in the shopping mall (over the road from the Riu Cancun) and never had any problems and they were well cheaper than with Thomsons
Thanks all - we are going to the Riviera Maya - what do you know about booking trips in that area. From experience I know that you can usually save a fair bit by booking trips locally - and for 5 of us, that can amount to another trip! Its just that we have not been to Mexico before, so dont have a clue.
We went to Playacar and since the other operators in the hotel didn't seem much cheaper we just organised it through first choice. Not particularly cheap but the trips were very well organised and a full day was precisely that, with Xel-ha for example we arrived before all the other coaches and were about last to leave. We certainly felt that we had our money's worth and would do it again.

we booked trip and got told the wrong departure place.. luckily me and the (ex now) were ok running in 90deg heat to the right place......
Hi Robbie! We've just got back from the Riu Tequila and the reps there were great. We were offered trips booked entirely thought them and also some which they organised but you could find your own wat there which saved both time & money. For example 6 of us went on the fat cat which we booked through the reps, the men then went horse riding, for which you could find your own way to the ranch. The reps then suggested that as the ranch also did quad biking, they could link the two. They had a great day out! With children I would suggest going to your reps meeting and take it from there. Don't be afraid to ask questions - you could get yourself a good deal.
