Given that they've just announced a £148 million pre-tax first quarter loss, they need to take drastic steps to reduce operating costs. Whether this will drive business elsewhere remains to be seen, but times are tough in the airline industry. Other airlines have offered the reduced luggage for a while so it's no surprie BA have followed suite.

Im looking at seat guru website to figure out what seats I want to try and book when I check in online. Can anyone advise me whether i will be on a 747-400 52-bus or 747-400-70bus? LHR-BOS 08/09/09
Flights BA213
BA214
Thanks
Em x
I can't be 100% sure, but It think they normally use one with 52 business class seats to Boston. If you go through BA's website when you're able to access the seat plan for check-in, it'll show the correct one.

Just for info for anyone else, yesterday I managed to upgrade my outbound flight to world traveller plus, they had a special offer on, so anyone else with flights book, check it out, it may still be on.
It was £80 inc taxes (each), they waived the admin fee too (£50). I have been checking almost daily and prices were £363 (each) the day before
Im flying on ba2157 from manchester to gatwick on sat, please can you tell me where the plane flies in from before. also ba2901 from gatwick to antigua on the same day, where does that plane come in from???
many thanks
bowmanor
I think you might have your flight numbers mixed up! MAN-LGW is BA2901. The aircraft nightstops in MAN after operating BA2914 the evening before, then operates the BA2901 first thing the morning after. LGW-ANU is BA2157. The aircraft normally comes in from Orlando (BA2038).

ooops!!!!
Just a question about BA's 777's.
I understand that most of them have had the new Club World cabin fitted - the last remaining few should be done in early 2010 if my source is correct.
I also understand that most of these also now have AVoD as a part of the New Club World Seating.
However, I understand that due to the wiring on some of the GE90 engined aircraft, AVoD is not fitted.
My question relates to which cabin layout these GE90 aircraft have (3 or 4 class).
I am looking to book CW when I fly out to Orlando and would like to be on a New CW aircraft (which I think that all LGW based aircraft have), but also with AVoD. All I know is that 3-class aircraft are used on this route but am unsure if the GE90 aircraft are 3 or 4 class.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers
PE
Are you looking at the BA2037/8 from LGW? They're all 3 class on the MCO route as far as I know and are GE90-85B powered, normally G-VIIR/T and sometimes G-VIIO/P.
Darren
Thanks once again for your quick response!
PE
Edit: In case you were wondering, all four of these aircraft appear to have had New Club World with AVoD fitted. In case anyone else wants to know.
Cheers
When doing the online check-in with BA in the UK, am I able to select my seats on the return journey at the same time as pick the outbound ones?
Oh, and one other thing! If we do check-in online 24hrs before, will we still be able to go for an upgrade should the opportunity for a free upgrade arise?
Not at the same time, no. You'll only be able to do that when you check-in for your return journey. You won't be able to go for a free upgrade once you've checked in as it's normally at check-in where that's assessed. In any case, the chances of a free upgrade, unless you are a frequent flier with BA with a high level One World status is slim.

BA marks 90th birthday
British Airways celebrates a major milestone today.
On August 25, 1919 the world's first daily international air service was launched from London to Paris, operated by Air Transport & Travel Ltd - a precursor to British Airways.
Since then, the airline has carried more than 1.2 billion customers on its extensive network.
Next year, British Airways will celebrate 75 years of flying Down Under. On April 20, 1935 the first flight took off from London and touched down 12 days later in Brisbane.
Paying tribute to the airline, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "British Airways has never lost the pioneering spirit and vision that saw it take to the skies with the world's first daily international flight from London to Paris on this day in 1919.
"Ninety years on, the world's most iconic airline is still proudly flying the flag and remains a great British brand."
BA chairman Martin Broughton said: "Over the past nine decades, British Airways has played its part in many historic episodes.
"We provided the first air links to far-flung capitals in the days of empire, flew Winston Churchill across the Atlantic during wartime, brought Queen Elizabeth back to Britain after the passing of George VI, repeatedly led the way with aircraft innovation and have often proudly transported home our sports teams from success overseas."
The airline is marking the occasion in various ways. Swarovski, the world's leading producer of precision-cut crystal, has loaned a giant bejewelled Union Flag to the airline.
The 4ft by 2ft artwork is embossed with more than 126,000 crystallised Swarovski Elements and will be in the arrivals lounge in Heathrow Terminal 5 until September.
An internal exhibition will showcase memorabilia from nine decades of travel, while customers in Terminal 5 have been treated to cabin crew modelling vintage uniforms in the terminal in the run up to its anniversary week.

BA have a worldwide sale on, book by 22 September
Im flying from London Heathrow to Miami on 21st November. Some of our group have said they are sure the new baggage policy applies to us - they say the wording seems to state that as we are travelling after 7th October we can only carry one bag @ 23kg.
But to me it states that if you book and travel from 7th October it applies - and not if you booked before.
Im reading it as if you book this flight to Maimi on 21st November on 6th october you can still take x2 bags but if you book the same flight on 7th october you can only carry one????? confused am I!
Can someone else clarify for me please?
please click here.
The changes to baggage policy which you mention come into effect on 9 October and apply to all new bookings made from that date, click here for more info.

There is a dedicated Forum for British Airways that you should post in with any further questions.
If BA do not no if they are operating the flights next year then there isn't much we can recommended to you.
However there are a number of other airlines operating flights to Palama for example: Thomas Cook, Thomsonfly, easyJet, Jet2.com and many other airlines.
Jet2.com is a very nice airline and if BA do not operate there I would use Jet2 if I needed to.
