Helenllama,

You'll be a transit passenger so will disembark the aircraft and have use of the departure lounge until your aircraft is prepared for the onward flight.

Hi we are flying on the 10th April 2014 gatwick to Orlando on a 777 aircraft. I was wondering if you could tell me I this is one of the new aircrafts. Also we have never flew with ba before so if you could give us any information on what the food is like and the experience. Do we choose our seats 24hrs before and will we all get to sit together we are a family of 5. Thank you so much for all your help x

ami123,

Please quote flight numbers when requesting aircraft information as there are often several flights. This ensures we get the correct information for you. I'm assuming you're on the LGW-MCO-LGW (BA2037/6)? These are operated by the Boeing 777-200 fleet so not new aircraft, but they are quite young. Food is fine, but you'll hve to make your own opinion on the quality as everything is different. Seating information is on BA's website. It's free to choose 24 hours priors to your departure date, or you can pay if you want to choose in advance. You'll find airline reviews here.

I've just been checking flights for October/November and notice that BA is now going to follow the other airlines and charge for hold baggage, I've checked earlier dates and it appears it will come in at the end of this month. It will cover 23kg plus hand luggage but one of the main advantages of BA was always the free luggage allowance, and though it will be fine for those going abroad on a quick business trip I'm sure there will be many like me who will decide to fly from a local airport rather than trek to the few UK airports from which BA fly.

Mmm, slightly misleading I think , BA from Gatwick only are offering 2 types of economy travel , you can purchase a hand luggage only flight at a DISCOUNTED price or pick the normal economy which includes in the price a hold allowance of 23kg , both fares still allow passengers a very generous hand luggage with a second laptop/ handbag also allowed , so I don't think it is following the other airlines .
The economy prices with hold luggage are the same price as they were before the the new discounted hand luggage only economy prices were introduced .
The hand luggage only idea was trialled earlier this year on selected routes and is now being rolled out to other routes that fly from Gatwick ( and this is the only airport ) .
You could view it as offering an alternative to passengers who would usually fly with LCC , however BA do offer free seat selection 24 hours before , a free drink and snack and the option to collect AVIOS .
Hardly following the other airlines is it ??

I admit I've only used BA to fly to Tunisia but checking the prices today the 'economy' with no hold luggage was about the same as I've paid many times in the past with luggage. i admit they are somewhat better than others as their hand luggage is still generous (at least for now), they do provide a snack (almost uneatable) and a cup of tea or coffee and seat selection is a nice bonus but as far as I'm concerned the jury is out on this one. The convenience and overall price are my deciding factors so I need to think about the cost etc of getting to Gatwick rather than flying from Stansted which is much easier and a great deal cheaper.

I had a look at typical fares from LGW to TUN in October and November and they go from £137 hand luggage only to £167 with 23kg hold included , return flights , which airlines do Stansted to Tunisia ?? Because those prices seem reasonable ? I understand convenience is important and it really depends on which airports are convenient for both departure and arrival .
As far as I know BA have no plans to change their hand luggage allowances .
I think the recent initiative from BA is to attract leisure travellers to Gatwick with the hand luggage only option , and flights to Larnaca and Marrakech which were announced recently to go alongside other favourite
destinations like Paphos, Tenerife and Lanzarote .

Hi all. I am going to Mumbai on 4th November flying from heathrow. I think our flight is about 9pm. It states we are on a Boeing 747. Thinking about upgrading to world traveller plus ( I hate when people recline in my face during meal times!).how much is the upgrade usually and is it worth it from experience on this aircraft? Thanks in advance!

Hi greenshoes ,
If you go onto the BA website and into manage my booking and put in your 6 digit reference then you can access your flight details and find out how much it is to upgrade with cash or AVIOS , you can upgrade one way or both , just looking at the prices now and WT+ is £137 more and return it is £100 so about £237 in total .
On the website you can view exactly what you get in premium economy /WT+ I know you get an allowance of 2 hold cases and it is in a separate cabin with 30 to 36 seats depending on the configuration , enhanced food and drink and service and a much nicer and more spacious and reclining seat with more legroom .
Any other questions , I will try to help

When you put in your reference and enter manage my booking it should tell you which plane is being used , as I have just seen that the majority of BA199 flights the last 2 months have been on 777- 200ER. But when making a booking for that date it does say 747 .

Just a quick correction the food served in WT+ is the same that is served in WT.

The first few years that BA operated WT+ meals were the same as WT. I think it was last year that this was changed, due no doubt to complaints. WT+ passengers now get a choice of meals from the club class menu.

Since June 1st 2012 , Hopefully this plus the other standards available in WT+ like 2-4-2 seating as opposed to 3-4-3 and 38 v 31 seat pitch will help greenshoes decide whether the upgrade is worth it or not .

I didn't realise the menu was now upgraded on WT+. Our next flight is WT+ :D

I am still thinking this one over. The thing we want to avoid is someone being able to recline right back into me. I'm a nervous flier and a seat close in my face makes me panic. I am so much better on a bulkhead/ exit. Can I prebook any of these in WT? Paying extra for them of course.

From reading it seems the November flight to Mumbai is the 747 series then changes later on in the year.

Fiona ( or any other nice person) can you help with this if you ave done this route before- we have booked one ticket so to speak with BA. Leave from Glasgow on to heathrow, then Mumbai then down to Goa. The Indian internal flight is Jet airways. Am I right in thinking that on the way we Collect our bags in Mumbai and recheck them in to jet airways and change terminals but on the way back we check them in at Goa and that's it?

greenshoes,

LHR-BOM-LHR (BA0199/8) are operated by Boeing 777-300 on your dates of travel (departing 4th November). Seat plans are here.

Thanks Darren. My eticket states operated by Boeing 747. Assuming this is a mistake then. i will have a look on BA link and see what is best.

I travelled on an emirates 777-300 last year which was ok. Thinking the upgrade is needed!

Thanks again!
