Hello, I have booked to go to Lagos this summer and have heard that there is a lot of building work going on in and around the town and near the Marina, does anybody know of this work and what is going on.
Cheers,
Dave.
Usual stuff, lots of new apartment hotels etc. I am planning to go out that way next week (I have a friend staying to show round) and take some pics with me new camera, as there have been several enquiries about this in another place.
I stayed at the Marina Club Aparthotel last summer, much of the building work there seems to be further blocks of Marina Club Apartments. There was a sales office at the front of the Marina Club which you could go in and look at models of how it will look when it's finished. (very built up
) We didn't find it disruptive though and it wouldn't stop me going back.

Whilst the crane count just before Christmas showed a healthy lead in favour of the town side of the river (13 as opposed to 7 on the Marina side)it's the Marina side's development that I found most obtrusive; for the main part there seemed to be smallish developments in town, whilst they're still throwing up more and more apartments over the river behind the Marina, all designed by schoolchildren and inspired by cornflake packets by the look of them.
Don't despair, for I have a cunning plan : sit in the Amuras bar, facing the town and you won't see the architectural abortion that's taking place behind you;in fact, if you stay in the Amuras for long enough, you won't notice anything at all !!

The Amuras bar is great for people-watching and the staff are very friendly;unfortunately they sell Superbock rather than Sagres - but nobody's perfect !!O Artista and Luis' bar next door to it are also friendly.Never tried Don Toro's ( spend all my time in the bars !!
) but it looks nice and the menu looks o.k. Having said that, it was(maybe still is ?) one of those places where they start with a basic price then add on for fries, peas, carrots, sauces etc. Might be worthwhile doing a bit of mental maths before you go in !!

If you want a great meal, try Christian's Kitchen, virtually opposite the driveway to the Tivoli Lagos.Christian is a Danish guy who used to be a chef with the Sheraton hotel group, and the food's excellent.
