Looking at the website, public areas include a TV room and a bar/cafeteria, no mention of a dining room.

Hopefully someone who has stayed there recently might have more info. In fact I have just noticed that shirley h stayed there this year, so hopefully she will be along shortly. This is a link to shirley's review, the hotel has also been mentioned in a few topics:

shirley has re booked for next Easter as well, so she'll probably be able to give you the info you need. Having stayed in La Carihuela myself, I can tell you that the hotel is in a nice location.
In summary, I'm not sure what the difference between the two types of room are. I've often come across hotels selling double room with breakfast and another advertised as bed and breakfast with quite a difference in the price. I've always opted for the cheapest one and have got what I expected. Think I might post that question (out of curiosity) in the Travel Republic thread who I've booked with.
Breakfast is served in the bar/lounge area as there is no dining room as such. you can also take your breakfast outside and eat at one of the Cabello's tables in the square, directly overlooking the fountain- a lovely way to start the day.
If there's any more you'd like to know, just ask. I've a couple of pics I could post if you'd like
we had a lovely stay there in April and have , as Helen said, booked to go back next Easter. It is very basic but the price reflects that.

I've booked a hotel in Malta with TR, and there were 2 rooms with the exact same descriptions, but with a different price. This time I opted for the more expensive of the two options.
and the dearer option a double room for single use ??
That could well be the situation David, for example, the Hotel Pez Espada in La Carihuela doesn´t have single rooms as such and all the bedrooms contain 2 beds, they just allocated one room (number one) on each floor for single use, and of course when there are no single bookings the room can be utilised as a twin bedded room.
If I´m down that way before I come home, I´ll pop in and ask them.

1 Do you have full 24 hr access to the rooms as im sure theres no reception as such, in which case you keep hold of the key instead of handing it in.
2 Do you know if theres any parking areas nearby as i tendo to hire a car for a few days.
3 Is there a bus stop close to the hotel
4 Does the hotel have safe deposit boxes
5 I would imagine the price difference is probably the size of the room, are all the single rooms at the rear.
Im not really that bothered about facilities as long as its clean and the bed comfy as youre only in the room to sleep anyhow. Many thanks to you all for your trouble.

Yes, there is always someone on hand to open the main doors for you. Well not sure about 24hours but we didn't get in until 2am on an occasion and one of the staff was happy to open the door.

I think there was a car park at the back but can't be sure. Sanji'll probably be able to confirm that.
3 Is there a bus stop close to the hotel
Again, Sanji's the one in the know about the buses. We used the train to get from the airport and it was easy to use. We didn't use the buses.
4 Does the hotel have safe deposit boxes
Yes, in the wardrobe. If I remember correctly we only paid a deposit which we got back at the end.

Sorry cant help with the single rooms as we had a double.
yes, the hotel is the one you're thinking of, next to the school.
Who are you thinking of booking with?
Thanks for the info Shirley, im going for a fortnight in may and am going to be booking with Travel Republic.
The guy had no idea what goes off when booking via agents, but if you book direct, they have single rooms with just one bed situated at both the front and the rear of the hotel, and as a single traveller, it just depends which rooms are available at the time of your arrival and whether you get allocated a room with one or two beds for the same price.
Parking.....if you drive down the hill at the side of the Hotel Las Palomas, at the bottom of the hill instead of following the road around the corner, if you turn left and follow the contour of the street, there are parking bays both sides of the street. If you follow the road around the corner at the bottom of the hill there is a car park with a 24 hour max stay, situated on your left.
Buses, the L1 bus which does a loop to and from Torremolios, comes down the hill at the side of the hotel las Palomas and I think the bus stops outside the bakery just around the corner, although there isn´t a bus stop sign in situ....will try and check that out at some point... for buses to other places you´ll have to walk up the hill by the side of the Las Palomas to the coastal road, but IMO from where the Hotel Cabello is situated, you can walk it to Torremolinos quicker than going on the L1 bus and take the lift up into town for 50 cents.
Sanji
I definitely recommend the walk into Torremolinos rather than the bus. We walked up the main road and came back down the steps in order to walk back along the front but we were distracted by time share touts and, well that's another story.
Many thanks Sanji for taking the time and trouble, thats all my queries answered, i had planned on walking from torremolinos along the front as the hotel is easily accsessable from the beach. So im going ahead and booking the hotel at the cheaper price after reading Shirleys link. Once again thanks to you all.
Many thanks Sanji for taking the time and trouble
You´re welcome, we were passing anyway and I like a mission.
Go for it and get it booked.
Sanji
All booked, hotel and flight for may, looking forward to it, thanks again.
Pleased you're all sorted. We're there in April. Have a great holiday. I can recommend the train journey from the airport if you haven't already booked your transfer.
Hi Shirley, hope you have a great holiday too, i normally stay in los boliches and also use the train, far cheaper than a taxi isnt it? I plan to visit cordoba and granada amongst other places and will probably travel by train from malaga depending on car hire costs.
Anyone know if the rooms have a fridge? Theres no mention on their website cheers.
No fridge, I'm afraid.
Oh well never mind thanks.
Just got back from a fortnight at this hotel, i booked it after a couple of recomendations from people on here. Just to say thanks you were all spot on, its a great location, very friendly staff, the breakfast baguette was enough for me with coffee, especally the spanish way with oil and tomatoes. This really is a great hotel, i spend time in spain mainly for the language, a great little local bar i found on calle maria carmen is called trasgu run by a lovely lady from oviedo, a real traditional spanish locals bar. I will defo stay at this hotel again, thanks for the recommendations.
