Hi tis

God can't you tell I've been away from this site for too long, I have loads of piccies of the harbour, and video too, mostly of the work that was going on when we were there. They have built on the boathouse(you won't recognise that), all the marina walls have now been clad in wood, it is really nice. The back road, at the back of the Cala Bona and Consul hotels has been resurfaced (that was done while we were there, I have the video evidence), and looks really good.

Have you ever experienced the London Inn?

Hi Garry

It sounds wonderful - would it be incredibly rude of me to ask if you could email me a few sneaky peeks at the harbour area - I can't wait. 24 sleeps to see it all :D

Our friends come over the week after us and I've been telling them all about it - they'res like us (go back year in/year out) and they can't wait to see it all either.

We thought improvements were afoot last year as they'd built on the rock area in the harbour which ahd been there for years and it's now Thalassa Bar (sp) which looked very swish and of course the back of it is the new tourist info office.

Regarding the London Inn - we ate there once (1998) - it wasn't bad but nothing to rave about - we did think about going back last year and didn't get chance but will probably give it a go this year (we stayed in the Sema Apts next door to the London Inn in 2004).

Thanks Gary,

At least the food and the view from the rooms at the Alicia hasn't changed - it this view that draws us back - just to lie on the bed and see the sun rise is fantastic.

The hotel was less than a quarter full when we were there in February - this didn't help when audience participation was required! Re the drag act - we did notice that most of the people who stayed to watch were women - the men having made a hasty exit! We did see them as 'men' as you say they did look quite normal. As you say though not to everyones taste - at least next time if they are on we will know and go for a walk instead!

The Bonamar is not available during the winter months but any info on it would be appreciated. Cala Bona more or less closes down during January/February.

We probably wouldn't consider going in the summer months (too busy) - we preferred Port Soller and the Es Port Hotel where we went in May - very few children - mostly couples.

hi garry1412

we didn't actually catch the abba tribute band due to not knowing that they were on untill the morning after !!!
although we were talking to some other guests who did see them and said they were FAB !!!

us personally our highlight of the evening entertainment was seeing MATT and the others doing GREASE !!!
the first night we saw them was at the alicia and very well done it was !!!
and then the second time was at the bonamar which just had us in stitches !!! there was about 13/14 of us all on one large table at the front of the audience.
MATT decided to include us in the show and some how managed to drink about 5 pints of lager from our table !!! he also got one of our holiday friends to dress up as teenangel and go on stage !!!
of course he gave us a special mention at the end of the show.

what great holiday memories we have !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi tis

You will never guess where we are staying in September, only the Sema apts, yes, booked it through Dave at the London inn. We have got a ground floor one with a large sun terrace, and much cheaper than if we had done it through a travel agent, and he also arranges transfers, for 50 euros each way. Let me know what you think of them please, I have only seen pics on the internet, they do look very nice.

Maybe the food has improved since you last ate there, it was tremendous in May, I mean we were half board at the Cala Bona, but a couple of nights we went there early to get good seats for the entertainment, and some people were eating. I could not believe how good the food looked, so much so, that we decided to eat there on our last night. The food was really good and plenty of it, I had a gorgeous steak diane, and my missus had the biggest gammon steak I had ever seen, needless to say we couldn't eat it all. There is actually a menu on their website, along with the list of nightly acts they have on, most of them are really very good especially if you have children in your party.

Yeah Thalassa bar is really nice, we went for a coffe there one afternoon, and if the building work was not going on at the boathouse, it would have been idyllic. We will go back in September, though it is only a posh cafe, not a restaurant as such, not like Es Mollet, El Pescador, and Sa Dorada, now they are very nice places to eat.

Hi Gary. We are going to Majorca in October (hopefully Sa Coma) but if we cant get a good deal, would appreciate contact details so we can book Sema (through Dave - London Inn). PS What's the London Inn like? Heard they have some good entertainment.

Hi parqaluvva

The best advice I can give you is get yourself to the London inn, make friends with Dave, it is not very difficult he is a really nice guy (for a Yorkshireman), and ask him about the apartments, I don't think he advertises the fact (yes they have some very good acts on). They have a very good website, just look for London Inn, Cala Bona. You will find Cala Bona a lot quieter than Sa Coma, though it is only a ten minute taxi ride away(about 5 euros), no Germans though. If you have never been to Cala Bona, it really is a nice quiet place, loads of bars and restaurants, a few things for kids, though not much.

Hi Garry

Now that's REALLY interesting as after Pandora went bust Sema Apts seemed to disappear off the planet - we tried to book them last year to no avail but handy to know who may be able to assist in future. For all they are only 1 Key I'd have absolutely no qualms about staying there again.

You have done fantastically well getting a ground floor apartment - those sun terraces are to die for :D - we'd have loved one but ended up on the first floor. You get sun on the front of the apartments from early afternoon onwards.

The apartments are really spacious - bedrooms to front and rear with good sized bathroom in between - living area is a good size as is kitchen - we really liked the fact that there was an area to the end of the kitchen blocked off by a door and there was a big sink in there (ideal for washing your smalls) and it was a great place to store inflatables (looks out onto the Levante Park). The kitchen is separated from the living area by a door which again, is great if you don't like open plan.

Furniture is a little dated (all pine) but for us with kids it was ideal as I wasn't on edge the whole time if the kids touched anything.

All apartments have TV with satellite tho' I think the only channel that we found that spoke English was Sky News which did us okay.

As you know it's on a busy road with Los Pajeros restaurant across the road (and London Inn to the side) but the noise from traffic didn't bother us in the least and you couldn't be better placed for the Bip supermarket either just along the road.

The owners of the Sema also own Supermarket Sema just a few steps from the entrance to the Levante Park and you can get a safety deposit key from them (can't remember how much but compared to other places I know I commented on how cheap it was).

Apartments were kept very clean - I think the maids were in every day, if not every other day - I know we saw them a lot and they were lovely.

We will definitely give the London Inn a try this year - unfair really to pass judgement on one meal eaten there 7/8 years ago really and to be fair it's ALWAYS heaving on an evening, so yes we'll make a point of visiting this year.

Oh I feel so homesick (yes, Cala Millor & Cala Bona feel like home). Only 23 more sleeps for us!

Thanks Gary. Will try the London Inn this year. When we were in Palma Nova in April, one of the entertainers in the Fountain Bar (Claudia) said that she had worked at the London Inn and also Delanays in Sa Coma. Would like to see her again, she was very good (did Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner etc).

Hi tis

Thanks for the info about the Sema apts, they sound superb, just up our street, didn't realise the sun terraces were so good though, we do have a genuine reason for asking for lower floors. I don't like carrying luggage upstairs!! No seriously though thanks for the info :D .

Hi parqaluvva

Yes we have seen Claudia twice now, once at the Kings head (now closed), opposite the Alicia hotel, and once at the London inn, in May this year. She is on there once a week, every week, Friday 10.00pm, we think she is very good, does a bit of audience participation.

If you want to find the website of the London inn just type in Cala Bona london inn in a search engine, look for a2z Mallorca, and you will find it there, along with all the entertainment, menus, piccies of staff, etc.

Hi lou

Yes seen Matt do Grease, a couple of times, Starlight express, he's not very good on roller blades, very funny though. Have also seen him in the Magic tribute, where he actually does (along with the others a lot of ABBA songs), I can't fault the guy, he works really hard. He calls me Gary Barlow, cos I am called Garry and come from Manchester, we have had a lot of laughs about it. He will remember me if you ask him about me, and mention I am the one who knows Dave from Abba Again.

Hi markas

Not really sure about the two places you have mentioned, can't place either, if as you say they are on the Son Servera road (there are one or two, having driven around that area), I guess it is between Cala Bona and Cala Millor. If this is the case stick with Cala Millor, there is much, much more for young kiddies there, especially food and entertainment wise. There is not a great deal for children in Cala Bona, at all, but loads in Cala Millor, especially places to eat, lots of english, fast food places like Burger King, Kentucky etc, and lots of english bars and cafes.

Hi parqaluvva

Ok but don't forget they close on the 31st of October, give my regards to Dave and Doreen, and give the food there a try, you won't be disappointed.

I have been to the cristina apartments a few years ago . They are a little way out but nice and quiet. you will be closer to Cala Millor about 10 mins at a snails pace to beach or shops. Rose and Crown was our favourite eating place its still there but has changed hands since then .
