Please can anyone guarantee the weather for me....I want to book and go to Cala Galdana in late September, last year I done this and it rained almost all week....can anyone tell me if I was just unlucky or whether I need to reconsider when I book....difficult because of work commitments though.
I need the sun to shine!!!!....Gillyj
weather seems to be all up the wall these days - don't think anybody would guarantee you anything so far as the weather goes. It really is pot luck - although usually it would tend to be on the sunnier side but with global warming et al who knows!
I think you were a bit unlucky there (I felt the same about my holiday to Lanzarote in April) even though Autumn is the wettest season in the Balearics. I notice from an earlier post that you went on the last day in September so most of your holiday was in October which is often the wettest month of the year there. However, I've been to Menorca at the end of October the last two years and the weather was superb for 9 out of the 10 days last year and 6 out of 10 the year before though it was cloud more than rain that spoiled it slightly that year. Unfortunately, there is always the chance of the odd poor spell of weather in October and to a lesser degree even in September so if guaranteed sunny weather is vital to your holiday you would probably need to fly a bit further south.
The trouble is gone are the days of a rowdy holiday for me....I am looking for peace and tranquility....and cala galdana ticked everybox...except for the weather...Somebody else wrote that it gets into your soul and I have to aggree it is a lovely place.
Probably better to look at the Canaries or Cyprus if you want to guarantee your sunshine at that time of year.
I guess you are right...but went to Gran Canaria alot of years ago and wasn't that impressed...not a particularily good flier and such a lovely short flight to menorca...
hiya i'm in exactly the same boat as yourself i have booked for sa caleta end sept, begin oct and since have heard that menorca is the known as the wettest of the belearics, the windy island plus it's dear to eat out so I am beginning to wonder "what have i done". However I have seen some very encouraging comments too. So am afraid it's just a case of crossing your fingers!!!!!
Well there is no going back now I have just booked and we fly on the 25th Sept. I can't wait to go back because of the islands beauty, and yes quite expensive to eat out but last year we found a hotel where it was a help yourself buffet and you could eat as much as you like for £12.00 which was lovely, and to be honest I onl;y go away once a year so sod the expense!!
Hi Gillyj, glad to hear you like Cala Galdana so much We are going in August for the first time and really looking forward to it. Just wondered if there is anywhere nice to walk to of an evening?
We actually hired a car before we went but when we got there it was so much cheaper to hire in cala galdana, luckily our car was a day late arriving so we hired from down the road and then got our monies back from England.
Make sure you discover the real centre of Cala Galdana it is tucked behind the main road of shops, we did not find it until the last night
If you want anymore info on eatting houses let me know...it is beautiful and you will love it
Gill
Thanks for the tips Gill - we will wait until we get there to hire a car and try and find the centre of Cala Galdana in the first couple of days
