Just returned from this resort. Spent 2 weeks there with my husband and 10 yr old daughter in a villa.
Villa was excellent and only a 10 min walk from town centre. When I say town centre you should take this with a pinch of salt! We missed it the first time we walked into the centre! Although we were looking for somewhere quite I would honestly say here was a wee bit TOO quiet. The only shops to go to were eating places and about 5 souvenir shops that all basically sold the same type of 'spanish souvenir'!
It was really hot and we did not even attempt the walk to the beach - saying that we are not beach people and preferred to stay by the pool at the villa.
We ate in a few places that had been recommended on various sites and can only give our impresion of them so take them as you will!!!
La Salamander - had good reviews but we found it over rated and over priced. Ordered fillet steak and thought we were eating a sweet dish. It seemed they put sugar into everything! Service was good though and our daughter found the tortoises interesting.
Look Fu Chinese restaurant - service ok. Ordered curry so if you like cabbage in yours this is the place for you!
Siesta Mar - this is an apartment complex but you can use the restaurant facilities. Mainly does pizza but again we ordered steak and chicken. Service was good and food was pleasant enough.
Safri Lodge - Good food and good service. English owned. Happy hour between 6.30 and 7.30.
The Village Pub - Really what is says. Friendly service and very british with regards to snacks and meals. They run a free Boozy Bingo and Quiz 3 times a week for prizes. Good for family entertainment.
Sam n Eddies - 3 course meal with 1/2 bottle of wine per person ordering for 12.50 euros. Good food. Service ok.
Sa Paissas - Excellent service and very good food, although you pay for what you get! This was the place that provided outside nightly family entertainment and anyone could go. Would recommend for a more formal setting
Pitos - A MUST! Food is excellent and so is the service. Great variety from english breakfasts to spanish dishes. Portions phenomenal and prices hard to beat. For 9.95 euros my husband got cod, chips and peas. The cod, by no exaggeration, was approx 15 inches and ALL fish! You need to be quick to get a seat. If you eat here first I doubt you will want to go anywhere else. Highly recommeded.
Although the resort was quiet and family orientated I would have liked more shops to browse through. If your kids like to be active this would not be the place for you. If your looking to party I wouldn't recommend it either - one nightclub was excellent, cut into the cliffs and you can tour round but was expensive to get into and if you were not attending the nightclub you had to leave before 11pm.
Many thanks for your review
Hi I stayed in Cala`n Porter many years ago. Absolutely loved it there. I remember a restaurant called Pons that was at the back of the town somewhere, ,it was a restaurant the locals used to use and at the weekend they would be there with their families dancing to the music. We have some wonderful times there. I heard from a friend who has been there recently that this restaurant is still there.
