Hi there

Icmeler is a 9/10 on your list. It fails on the beach, it can be quite like shingle. Apart from that, we love it, we have been 8 times and going next year too. Our kids are 9 and 11 so have been going since they were very young. Icmeler is very child friendly.

Got to agree. Icmeler meets all your needs apart from the beach.Saying that you wont want to go on the beach most days, too much going on for you and your family. Happy hols. Anna xxxxxxxxx

sorry i have to disagree i think altinkum ticks all the boxes there are 3 lvely beaches loads of bars restauranta seving fry ups and even fish and chips there are lovely bars on the beach where you can watch the sun go daown while watching the world cup thats what we did this year, most of the bars are child freindly, with lots going on,go there you wont be dissapointed.

HI HAVE to agree altinkum is a fantastic resort,3 lovely beaches, plenty of good eating places also some good bars particulary the swan bar in dolphin square they have a small dance floor where you can dance also have guys that do some good dance routines every night,if your looking for a good place to stay iwould recomend the esra apartments they have 2 pools and about 3 waterslides, they are about 10 mins from third beach but if you go to reception they arrange for the dolmus to collect you free of charge

I've been to several different Turkish resorts over the years and although most of them would score highly on your list i would have to give my vote to Icmeler . The mountain backdrop and view out across the sea more than makes up for the shingle beach ..... 11/10 for me

You could argue this out forever, we've been going since 1991 visited Bodrum, Gumbet, Kusadasi, Alanya, Fehtiye, Altinkum, Side though our preferred choice is Marmaris, visited about 9 times as it has something for everyone. Always visit Icmeler from Marmaris and it,s lovely but not for us for 2 weeks.
Kusadasi has nice beaches as does Altinkum, both sand.

All resorts in Turkey are child friendly, from what we have found anyway, all have nice Hotels on the beach, the staff are all usually very nice and helpful anywhere you go and all have different cuisines Indian etc :

All the resorts have karaoke/lively bars but you can't guarantee the clientele' from one week to the next.

Good luck

ive also been going to turkey over 24 years about 5 times a year and have been to most resorts from cesme all the way along the coast down to antalya, there are +s and -s against most as everyone has different ideas what they like, i prefer the typical turkish pretty fairly quiet resorts and would avoid anywhere that was playing football grrr lol ,anyway i think icmeler or hisaronu would probably be the best places ,hisaronu the beach is about 5 mins on a dolmus to olu deniz, but it does have all the other requirements, chinese restaurants, football in some bars, music etc ,great for shopping too and only about 1 hour from dalaman airport and you have the advantage also of the beautiful views in olu deniz, but icmeler is also nice

ellie meg, would love to hear your stories from when you first started going to Turkey. We have so many memories of the early days when we started going.
Bibbs if you go to Hisaronu you are in easy access to Fehtiye, Olu Deniz and Calis beach, all really nice Turkish resorts.

my first trip to turkey was in 1982 to istanbul when bears were allowed to dance in the streets etc how turkey has changed over the years mainly for the better, ive also been to kusadasi, bodrum, gumbet, altinkum, icmeler, marmaris, antalya, olu deniz, hisaronu both of them near olu and marmaris, akyaka, fethiye, side, tekirova, selimiye, bozburun, cesme, some of these places i have been to up to 8 times too, think thats all, ive actually bought apts in akyaka now as this is 1 of my favourite places. ive had lots of good holidays but a few terrible ones which is only to be expected the amount of visits ive had to turkey, my mother also lives in beldibi near marmaris, so ive been to marmaris more times than i cant remember lol, we also got married in olu deniz last year, so too many stories to tell but if you want to know anything in particular doodles im happy to tell you

Karen you must be one of the most experienced posters on holidays to Turkey living in England. :rofl

In terms of the original post, I thought that Olu Deniz might fit the bill, the only problem is the beach bit, they would need to go to the private beaches on the lagoon to get sand. But there are all sorts of restaurants, and the Club Belcekic Beach and the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel are virtually on the beach. There was definately a Kareoke Bar and a couple of Bars with those big screens for footie, because we avoid them like the plague so you tend to notice them.
Not sure about fry-ups something else that is not us, but there is such a diversity of restaurants that I am sure they would be there as it's a British style resort. I make that 9/10. :D

chris im the same as you avoid fry ups, and football lol, i hate football ,thankfully my hubby not that bothered about it unless its the world cup

how sad ive been to turkey so much lol, mind you saying that ive been to about 25 other countries too lol, so it does show how much i love turkey to keep going back. i recommended to 1 of the other posters to try akyaka and her mother is there now and shes just emailled me to tell me she loves it and the hotel i recommended is fine ,thank goodness its always difficult as everyone likes different places good job or will would all be queueing up for the same place lol

i think a lot of resorts mentioned would suit, just thought hisaronu is slightly busier and more choice of bars, restaurants than olu , best thing for them to do is read up on all the resorts and decide

Hi Karen.

Although I haven't been (yet), I also though Icmeler, apart from the beach might do 9/10. I dont think greece or turkey really have many great beaches as such, but there is so much more to go there for anyway that you can cope with the odd gritty or shingle beach.

I quite like football, but in Turkey in July even if there was any on I would give it a miss. (I think late July and Aug should be football free zones LOL)

Glad your recommendation worked out, it's a bit of a gamble recommending resorts and accommodations as everybody likes different stuff.

icmeler is lovely too, but i prefer olu deniz as slightly smaller and prettier in my opinion and i love the lagoon, beach in icmeler is better than the beach in marmaris thats for sure

im happy ive cancelled my morrocan hol to go back to turkey in july, although going to marrakech in jan for 5 nights got a bargain ,so well pleased

thanks again to all that have replied so far.
at the moment it's looking like icmeler,it seems that many of you out there prefer the quite turkish holiday, but as we have done this for the past two years and have already booked for 2007,we wanted somewhere in turkey with a bit more going on,lucky for me my partner loves the footy more than me,so unless the replies alter the choices made so far,it's icmeler 2008 here we come, :glynis

wow you are thinking far ahead, i havent got all my 2007 booked yet lol, im impressed with your planning, my husband wont even look lol, just says you do it grr, just booked a hotel yesterday for marrakech and theres no way i could get him to look at any , so i always worry incase its crap and then its my fault lol

well i hope we can find the money sooner than 2008,but i doubt it,so might as well look for 2008,gives me something great to look forward to.
if your other half doesn't help with the planning, then he has no room for blaming you. :tut lol.
