Hi everyone. Have been reading the site for a while now and did so last year just before I went to Goa for the first time. I found the advice really helpful then and had a brilliant holiday. I booked to go again this year almost as soon as I got home. Went to the MD in Arpora last year but decided to try Candolim this year as we had a couple of nice days on the beach there. Staying at the Sunset Beach which is close to the River Princess. Is there a decent shack that anyone can recommend close to the beach entrance from the hotel. I know this sounds lazy but I arrive early morning and will just want to start the holiday with an instant relax. Will get more adventurous after a few long snoozes. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Going mid March, can't wait.
Dave
If I am not mistaken you are a minute from the beach. As you go down the beach path the first shack on your left should be Ganesh shack.Friendly bunch of guys.
Papa, Thanks for that. I have read of Ganesh shack on some of the other posts and it sounds great but did not know where it was. Glad to hear it is so close, sounds ideal.
By the way welcome to the forum.
Hi roverdave what date do you arrive at the sunset beach,we are staying there to ,arrive 15 march for 3 weeks, mandy
Hi Mandnleight, Arrive at the Sunset 17th March for 2 weeks. Have you been there before?
HI dave yes we stayed ther last year for three weeks, had a fab time, thats why we booked again this year mandy
Thanks Mandy, it's always reassuring to hear of someone returning to the same place. When I booked I only had a vague idea it might be a place we spotted on a visit to Candolim, so not really sure what to expect. The reviews seem to be fairly positive though and if it is a place you feel good enough to revisit then it does help put the mind at rest.
Glad to help dave, anything you need to know about sunset just ask glad to help oh, and see you there in march im the one with the funny welsh accent mandy
we always use Ganesh's shack every year, the food sooooo tasty, and Ganesh, Raj and Bobby are great fun to be with. Have just returned on wednesday from our holiday and missing the shack food so much. we also stayed at Sunset Beach last year, its a nice hotel with lovely big rooms. as you go down the beach path from Sunset you go past the little shops and stalls and when you get to the end of the path where the scooters are parked take the matting that goes to the left and that will bring you straight to Ganesh shack.
Can't rate the Sunset any better than excellent, so your in for a treat. Pleasent walk down the road to the beach with a few stalls selling the usual stuff and a decent not over priced barbers as well (hope he's still there anyway..). Last few seasons Ganesh is the only shack down that way to open at night time, so if you fancy the evening sea breeze you aint far away.

We stay at the Sunset Beach too and also use Ganesh shack. The Bistro at the Sunset gets excellent reviews and the Mermaid restaurant is just up the road. In fact there are loads of good restaurants which are within walking distance of the hotel. The staff are dead friendly and the rooms are nice and spacious and clean. Ganesh is a great guy. We love the food at the shack and he goes to the market every day and will get you any fresh fish you like. We love the jumbo prawns. They are enormous and delicious. What Spike says about Sudah is right. Her boys are always at the top of the road directing people to her shack.
We won't be there until April this year and we are really looking forward to it.
Enjoy your holiday.
Gail
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I will keep my eye out for the Sudah boys. From what is being said I am looking forward to staying at the Sunset. 3 weeks to go, wishing the days away now.
Dave what date do you go ? we go on the 14th of march cant come quick enough ....colleen
Colleen, arrive on the 17th. So much more looking forward to going this year than last. I read HT last year before I went to pick up any tips etc. Could not believe what I was reading, apparently Goa was full of thieving, murdering rapists, was not safe to venture outside the hotel I would be staying at for fear of scooter gangs, taxi drivers were aggressive and everyone would try to rip me off at drop of a hat. Whereas I would have gone anyway after all a holiday is a holiday and after 12 months of work it would take more than a few murderers to stop me getting to the beach bar, I don't think my wife would have been too keen. Probably would have cancelled if it had not been too late. So glad I didn't would have missed one of the most relaxing holidays I have ever had. Great to see so much more positive posts this year Goa is a great destination.
Dave of your about on St Patricks night call into Molly Malones there will be lots of the members there that night you will know me or hear me call over and say hello to hubby and I ...colleen .. forgot to ask you are you staying in the North ?
Hi Colleen, staying in Candolim, where about is Molly Malone's?. Not sure how awake I will be on the 17th as will just have got there, but thanks for letting me know and will make it if poss.
well halfway down the main street there is a mini roundabout ...molly malones is to the left of
the roundabout as your walking down to the beach if you know what I mean ..its about 1/2
mile up that street ....colleen
calamari for me every time, walk down to the beach from your hotel, turn left and head down towards aguada, probably about half a mile.
Calamari for us too, found it for the first time on our last holiday - only took us 16 years :rofl. Comfy sun beds with beach towels supplied and free!!!!. Excellent varied menu at reasonable prices. Staff are attentive without being over the top - decent clean loos. A very enjoyable place to chill out, absolutely love it.
