and up to now i have only had part of my question answered ref this hotel does anyone know anything about the facilities of this hotel for example
is there a tailor or jeweller or any kind of shop
do the bars shut exactly at 11pm
do they provide late night snacks for hungry stopouts
do they play any sports ie pool vollyball
sorry to be a nag but i am one of those people who by the time he gets out there has every snippet of information and has studied his enviroment in full
throw back to my army days
many thanks

susanH,
cannot answer specifically re WPalms
Don't worry about jewelers and tailors on site as there are hundreds around.
Even if the bar closes at 11.00 on the dot, there is bound to be a restaurant either on site or next door that will be open (not for al inclusive if it's off site). Ditto for late night snacks
Sports! I doubt it, but you may be pleasantly surprised. The hotels are not the same kind of thing as you may have expirienced in Spain or the Balearics.
Del
but its the wife and her mate that i worry about
if there are shops on site she will be visiting numerous time and she has no bartering skills what so ever and it could have a knock on effect once the goan shopkeepers know she is over there also she can not get her head around exchange rates and so is easy prey to rogues
all i want to find out is if there were any shops were they decent sorts or should they be avoided.
its my own fault i know for always taking control if i can fore warn her she will be on her guard and not be so trusting
del i think ref merger that there is a lot of baggage to be rid of before any talks can proceed.
and have you heard of our gen secretary situation
also these merger rumuors have been hovering since work started on the millenium dome where a representation agreement was struck
i actually represent about 4 tgwu members as a result of that agreement

i must admit i now prefer cricket which suits my age as my body soon lets me know when i ve done too much running about and who wants to be stiff all over on holiday

theres a thought do they supply towels for around the pool at this hotel for all inc
del
Take my advice and give your wife £100.00 worth of rupee's and let her go wild and spend it on what she wants. then show her how much she could have saved if she bartered. You might find that she will suprise you. and if not its only a £100.00 not too much lost. if we are there the same time as you next year I askll get my wife to teach her how to haggle.
thanks del that will keep the weight down
will definatly take you up on that offer peter
is there a jeweller or tailor in this hotel
or even a massage
There is jewellers and taylors directly opposite your hotel.
haven't been in whispering palms but know the location. It is at the far end of Candolim nearer the Taj. It doesn'y matter where you are really cos you will find it easy to get tut tuts and taxis from outside the hotel if you want to explore. As for all inclusive; well try it but please please get out and check out everywhere else. i imagine the hotel is nice enough; it is virtually on the beach and from the outside looks ok (has security fences and guards around the perimeter! not as bad as i made that sound!) and could be a good base. Right on your doorstep you have the Mermaid Restaurant and The Sunset Bistro; both great. We particulary enjoyed our meal at the Bistro; great menu and classy food, nice setting. I think the chef is actually english. The Mermaid is run by a scandanavian woman and is very popular; great steaks and lovely potatoey jacket potatoes. You must get out the hotel during the day and visit the shacks; you will probably find your favourite and stick with them. You can't beat mooching down to your sunbed and then strolling up for a Kings lager and bite to eat (count on about £1.20 for a grilled tuna with extras, £1 for mixed noodles, less for a sandwich, bottle of kings usually about 30 rupees (under 50 pence). Back down to your sunbed and then drag yourself up to the shack for sunset and a sundowner cocktail! All very cheap and all the shacks are friendly, you won't beable to help chatting to people, mostly discussing just how good goa is!
Tailors etc...I wouldn't automatically go for one in your hotel (even if the rep says they're great). Try and find someone who knows the score and get a reccommendation. Suggest you take a stroll down to somewhere like the Mango Grove on the main drag, it's a bit of a haunt for regulars and someone will guide you towards tailors, taxis etc etc.
As for haggling, tell the missus to take it easy on the first few days; ask around for an idea of prices; you will be ripped off no doubt! but really it shouldn't matter it will probably be pence not pounds, don't get too hung up on it! Most things will be cheaper than you imagine... perhaps ask here if you have any idea of what you want.
I advise writing down any reccommendations cos if you're like me you will forget them when you get there.
Also; get aound and visit other places if you fancy it. For us the beauty of Goa (apart from the people, the beaches, the weather, the food...) is the ability for serendipity. You won't get that lying around your pool. Take a trip to the nightmarket (if only once). Get a taxi to take you to the north beaches (£10 per day ish), stay in Palolem for a night (if you don;t mind it basic), do the Jungle book trip to see the elephants, check out restaurants in different places, buy the Rough Guide to get a bit of the cultural background. Save something to do next time you go!
Any questions put them on here; I think alot of us here love goa and just talking about it brings it closer!
We're hoping to hit Goa for a month just travelling around next Feb. Bring it on!
