Hi again i have just spoken to their head office and they tell me they have not stopped using travelrent, it is just that they have not received their prices after 31/03/08. As soon as they get these they will be able to offer prices for the remainder of the year, they expect to have them in place sometime during December, so keep checking
Ah thanks for that nosivad.
Thanks Nosivad, thought it was very strange as they have been with economycarhire for quite a few years now. Cheers Jayjan
It had a few bangs and scrapes which I pointed out before pick up and it also received another to the passenger door when I think it was hit in a car park (I only noticed it two days before the end of the hire so it could have happened anywhere), I called the office but they weren't too concerned and when I returned it all they looked at was the fuel level.
I've just got quotes for my next visit in December/January and Carjet comes out at £153 and Economycarhire at £92 for 10 days. I guess for that price difference I can live with a lower standard of car; but this time I'll definitely specify a company other than Travelrent.
One company states a credit card is needed for petrol and you must leave the car with a full tank of petrol on drop off or you may not be refunded, others ask you to leave the same amount of petrol in the tank to the amount that was in when you picked the car up, also out of hours charges differ from company to company. Happy driving. Cheers Jayjan
That is typical we have booked travelrent car hire for xmas/new year!!
I shouldn't worry too much, SB. I had no problem the first few times I used Travelrent and my daughter and sister-in-law have also been happy with them. I was either unlucky or else Travelrent operate a perverse policy of giving the bright shiny cars to new customers (to encourage them to return) and the old dogs to regulars (on the basis that they will probably not want to pay higher prices elsewhere). That gives me an idea: maybe we'll hire the December car in my partner's, rather than my, name and see what sort of car she gets. Cheers
Pimlico, we have booked economycarhire using travel rent for many years and we have always ended up getting an upgrade from what we booked, so regular customer thing wouldnt apply on our experience. Carlos & Mario are very obliging when you pick your car up at the airport.. Superbock I wouldnt worry about hiring your car from Travel rent as Pimlico says they are an OK company, he just had an unlucky experience. The godsend is that you dont have any problems if someone hits your car, no excess on insurance.Cheers jayjan
We've never had an upgrade (stamping of feet) with economy nor travel rent - but we've only used them 3 times - next July will be the 4th Here's hoping
Cheers jayjan,

http://www.carhirealgarve.net . I decided to book with them as I got a quote without CDW as I have a separate annual CDW excess policy. The price was good 270 euros for an air conditioned car in August for 2 weeks. I have had a couple of queries and I have been sending them emails since before Xmas with no reply. I am beginning to change my mind regarding them. If anybody has recent dealings I would be grateful to hear of them
Has anybody had recent dealings with
not recent dealings, but had a car from them for 2 weeks last june.np. delivered & collected car from our apt; in lagos. 1st. class service.
prices slightly higher this time, terms still seem ok to me -no excess. They appear to have upgraded their
web format which to an old fogey like me is a bit more cunbersome.I did try to get some extra discount for multiple bookings as i also used them last November, unfortuneately they said they would only consider this if 5 bookings took place within the year then on the 5th one they would be prepared to give something.Well i did try(the wife says i'm very trying anyway ) good hunting and if you find a better deal please let us know.
They have always been first class with me and I normally get an upgrade, booked 6 times in 24 months.
I've had some great deals of late, ie; 3 days €30/35 all in with all insurances, top company.

Sometimes Robby they can be dearer booking direct than booking with economycarhire, this proved right for our week 11th Jan to 19th Jan, emailed Carlos but he couldnt beat the economy price with full insurance ( or he didnt want to) ,worked out 10 quid cheaper with the discount with Economycarhire. All counts what do pounds make ? thousands, millions, prizes etc. But saying that travel rent are still a top company for service. Our own car on the Algarve is very poorly at the moment diesel pump or injector problems & could be very expensive to rectify,so maybe she has to go to the scrapyard in the sky.Cheers Jayjan
Hi Jayjan, we have been reading this thread for a while and have been looking at the Economy car hire however due to there being 10 in our party we are struggling to get a vehicle to seat everyone (i.e Transit/V.W transporter = max 9 seats) do you know if they do slightly larger capacity vehicles?
Mark have done a quick search and the 9 seaters are showing as the biggest.
