Use Economy cars.uk. good price no extra cost for Spain
hertz is better and cheaper
So don't go getting too selective from the original list, you might save yourself some serious money. And before Hertz's agent adds his response - Hertz were dearer and they have an insurance excess of at least €1000 to worry about.
The Hertz agent certainly has an appropriate name as the cheapest a/c car with Hertz for 2 weeks in August is €516 which is a tadge over double my quote but he manages to work out that it is cheaper
Just been looking at car hire prices from Faro airport.Checked Economy Car Rentals, which I have used before and Economy Car Hire, two different companies. Of interest to people wanting to visit Spain,Economy Car Hire dont charge for cross boarder,Economy Car Rentals charge 25 GBP.I cant see any hidden charges with the cheaper option boosting their rental,so a bit of a saving.
As I have recommended economycarhire.com many times to posters I feel obliged to let people know, not to use this particular company SEVIS when booking through economycarhire website., or for that matter any other website they advertise on.
Admin if you feel this post is inappropiate & needs to be deleted please do so, but I feel people should know about this. Admin if you want the links to read the posts with people it has affected please PM for details. One of these persons has paperwork to prove fraud commited by this company as well as faxes & emails, all of which they are handing over to the Police.
.
If you Google Sevis and "car hire" you'll find more complaints like this and not just at Faro, there's at least one instance at Porto. Have you thought of sending the evidence to economycarhire even if they weren't the agents?
Steve, I rang economycarhire this morning to see if they where aware of this company. I was told that they had previously used them in the past and ended their contract because of problems,(what problems they were they wouldnt divulge). They have now been assured by Sevis since being reinstated as a car hire company operating for Economycarhire that all future operations will run smoothly. Economycarhire did also say that they are monitoring them very closely for any complaints whatsoever.
Fuel: Clients must pay for a full tank of fuel on arrival which can be refunded if the vehicle is returned with a full tank. No refunds for fuel will be made if the tank is not full. Please note: Due to refuelling logistics you will be charged at a higher rate per litre compared to the normal pump price.
Would I be correct in assuming they will take a credit card imprint and that is returned to me when handing back the car, as with TravelRent as long as the fuel is at the correct level as at the time of collection?
Thanks in advance for all advice.
I am of the assumption/understanding that they give you your credit card slip back if the petrol situation is ok.
We too have noticed a big jump in prices for Travel Rent, they are also making you sign an extra piece of paper & ask for passport ID which they didnt previously. The paper has terms and conditions on it and should be read thoroughly, as there are lots of things on it you think you are covered for, but you are not. Theft is one of them and also damage when a car is parked up, now that is new on me. If you take extra insurance out for CDW, the no excess only applies if you should be involved in an accident with another car. The terms and conditions are a bit on the cloudy side, maybe for a reason, I dont know.
One just wonders if its best to book through Economycarhire & supposedly get full coverage (if you read ECH "What you are covered for") Booking direct with travel rent it seems to me that you dont have the same protection. We have booked direct with Mario at travel rent for May, and asked for a car with full insurance NO EXCESS, he gave us a price, we accepted, but after numerous emails to them we cannot get them to state in writing that their is NO EXCESS on all the car hire, only that we dont have to pay anything should we be involved in an accident with another vehicle.
I recently had a conversation with another person who rang economy car hire re the coverage of insurance and they where told everything is covered, but who knows.
I copied & pasted this off Economycarhire website on insurance coverage & Credit Cards
Frequently Asked Questions:
What does the insurance include?
Our insurance includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with no insurance excess liability and Theft Loss Waiver (TLW) with no liability in the event that the vehicle is stolen. Also covered is third party and public liability insurance. Two drivers are always covered as standard. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is not normally included in our package; however, this should be covered by your travel insurance policy. Certain parts of the vehicle such as the wheels, tyres, locks, roof, glass parts of the vehicle (including the windscreen), the underside and interior are not covered by the insurance as they are normally damaged as a result of negligence. Top-up insurance is sometimes offered at the time of collection to cover damage to these items.
Why do I need a credit card?
If stated, our suppliers will need to take a swipe of a credit card on collection of the vehicle. This will enable payment to be taken in the event of parking or speeding fines, damage to uninsured parts of the vehicle, or in the event of gross negligence. This also enables our supplier to take payment if you fail to return the vehicle at the end of the hire period!
I've received an email from Economy Car Hire stating that not all AirAuto cars will be full of fuel on collection and therefore, should be returned with the same amount as at collection, so essentially the same as TravelRent.
I always take a photo of the fuel gauge on my mobile at point of collection, as I sometimes find that the written inidication of fuel on the paper work can sometimes be way of mark, so to speak.
I think I'm going to give AirAuto a whirl and will report back in May on the service etc.,
Thanks again. Scoya
In addition to the above have been advised that the companies that used the "cubicle" on the left hand side in the arrivals, such as Air Auto, Drive 4 Fun, Travel Rent etc., (possibly all those bookable via Economy Car Hire), have now relocated to a portakabin in the car park, P4, where you always collected and returned hire cars, so on arrival now you just go straight out to the car park. Apologies if this has been previously posted.
I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a reputable car hire company where i can book either via the telephone or over the internet, as i have just tried one company and they want 600 euros deposit at the airport to cover incase there was a accident that was on top of the actual cost of the hire and tbh i dont have that kind of money only going for a week as a late deal and on a limited budget.
We would need to be able to pick up and drop off at faro airport.
Thanks in advance
Sweet xx
http://www.economycarhire.co.uk. They are UK based and the price includes all insurance. I've used them about 5/6 times now and never had any problems.
Quite a few of us here on HT recommend
hi all, just back from 16 fab days, please note that the others car hire desk in arrivals hall no longer exists, there is a new procedure; you have to go direct to car park no 4 where a new white shed has been built and you sign up there.it was quiet when i went out but on returning the car the queues were quite large.
Have justed returned from Portugal and for the first time booked a car, with AirAuto, via Economy Car Hire in the UK, the experience is not one I will be repeating, and just wanted to make people aware how important it is to thoroughly check hire cars.
We finally received a vehicle after waiting 75 minutes from first completing the forms at the new portakabin in car park 4. I was told that they had a number of vehicles delivered back late and there would be a 15 minute wait whilst they were being cleaned.
After 30 minutes I get the keys to a Peugeot 107 - on finding the car the front near side tyre has two "lumps" missing out of the tyre wall - I go back to the desk to advise the car is not acceptable, could the tyre be changed - no response, just huffing and puffing
2nd car offered is a Yaris - which the front tyres have no tread on - I get told by the representative that "it's OK in Portugal, the police don't mind" - I refuse this car - at which point the rep is getting agitated to say the least.
I took the third car as the best thing about it was that all four tyres were intact and had tread.
I will be sending an email to Economy Car Hire, I did in fact call them at the time of trying to get a road worthy car to advise them of the problems we were having. I hope that the photographs, when downloaded, show the extent of the tyre damage.
Please everyone when hiring cars, do take the time to check not just the cars bodywork, but the tyres as well - because to make the situation really make my blood boil, was once I received the 3rd car, whilst still checking it over (albeit the rep had gone), another couple made their way over the to first car I was given and start loading their luggage, I went over to point out the tyre issue, needless to say they hot footed back to the rep to also decline this car. How on earth they can give out a vehicle once this kind of damage has been pointed out to them beggars belief.
Excellent post Scoya, hopefully it will make people aware of these things.Being totally honest that is something we dont check as we take it for granted that the car will be in roadworthy condition, but in future the tyres will be a priority. It makes you wonder whether they do this with tyres for a reason because they arn't covered on the insurance if damaged, so if you bust one its you that has to pay for it, and for saying the police wont mind is a load of utter rubbish. I hope you have sent economycarhire a very stiff letter/email so they can act on this couldnt care less attitude on safety of some the car hire companies they use.
or you could print the pictures off and post them to
