Hi,
My husband went out to our apartment in Cala Dor last weekend and the weather was really lovely. During the day, he said you didnt have to wear a shirt it was that warm. However, it was very quiet with very very few restaurants open - just one or two but sometimes thats all you need. He enjoyed the weather and the break - went shopping in Palma which he said was really lovely this time of year. I have friends who went last year on Boxing Day and were in shorts for the days they spent there. Flights are not that plentiful though Easyjet fly every day from Gatwick and some other destinations. It should be relatively cheap too. Dont know about hotels - I do know there is one in Cala Dor thats open but dont know what its called. You may find some apartments availabe to rent over that period.
Hope this helps.

Why not stay in Palma Town rather than a resort. This is a bustling town with loads of restaurants open all year round for the local population. A beautiful town, some nice sightseeing and shopping. This could be your base to explore the rest of the island.

Magalluf and Palma Nova will also have a reasonable amount of places open but I would plump for Palma Town.

Kind Regards
Stewart

Thank you very much for the responses. Very helpful.

Has anyone got experience of the sort of New Year celebrations which go on?

My experience is of what goes on in the north in Alcudia and Pollensa. It is probably similar elsewhere. Many places don't open until about 11 in the evening and then stay open till ... Booking a restaurant can be a bit tricky as those places that do open get booked up early. In Alcudia, as an example, finding a restaurant is nigh on impossible. Palma may well be easier. Otherwise, lots of fireworks at midnight, eating lucky grapes and a real party atmosphere. Definitely do not drive!

On balance, Palma is probably a better bet than most places for Xmas/New Year. I couldn't really recommend the north. Magaluf could be ok, but there will be those who know better than I do where Maga is concerned.

Just got back from Christmas in Palma Nova. We didn't walk further than a mile or to so cant help on that score but the weather was great, just a bit chilly at night. the sea was flat as a duck pond but yet again a bit chilly without a wet suit. Plenty of bars open for food and drink in this area, we had a fantastic time (apart form our accommodation that was a dump).
Go and enjoy, we would go again and with air fares as cheap as 70 return its cheap as chips.

Hi spfoto and welcome to HT!

If you haven't done so already, perhaps you would like to write a review of your accommodation by clicking on Hotel Reviews at the top of the page. If it isn't listed you can ask for it to be added at the top of the Help & Assistance forum.
