I am really cheesed off by these callers from 0730am in the morning until 2100 hrs at night. We are X Directory for a start and also we use the house phone for my husbands business. It is the same with our mobiles, we get them all the time and its so annoying.
Is there any way of stopping them?
Thank you

Also here's where you can register to opt out of marketing calls:- http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

The silent calls i did but the TPS one i was told i am already registered but i still get calls, so clearly breaking the law by ringing us.
Is there one for mobiles please x
The problem with the TPS service is that it only applies to calls originating in the UK and so Indian call centres phone you (and me!) with impunity!
There's plenty of help here, just follow all various the links:-
I get silent calls from 02070609965 but I've caller display so when I see it come up I just click the phone on, then off again straight away.
Thank you, atm i just let the call go to ansaphone, if its important then i ring back
We've been suffering a spate of these calls of late, I've realised that a lot of ours have been where the computer (from the callers side) dials the number, you answer and the minute you say 'hello', the call becomes active and transfers to an operator, hence you get that slight delay. So now when I answer the phone I say nothing and 8-10 times the lines goes dead within seconds because you've not activated the call by speaking.

this number is listed here http://whocallsme.com/.
i am registered with the tps but still get calls and not always from abroad, companies get round the tps by stating they want you to answer a survey!!
latest number to call me is +501, thats a new one to me!

It's not ideal, however, after about a month of these calls, they've now ceased.
Yeah I didn't used to answer either as I'd read somewhere that they can be voice activated, or, they random dial a load of numbers and it just depends who picks up first. They're a pain definitely.

I found it listed there also jhe it's on a few sites so is really a problem.
It seems to have stopped them For now.
I often let it go to answerphone as well and sometimes get half a message (always about PPI). Once I actually picked up and when she started her spiel I simply said "Utter b***ocks. Just stop calling me". The calls stopped for a while but I've had a few today. And yes, I'm registered with TPS. At least I don't get them on my mobile for some reason.
Then register THEM with ALL of the other nuisance companies from PPI, through ambulance chasers to viagra testers. Just keep putting their number on as many online forms as you can with a dummy name and address. Put the number on the holiday flight questionnaires also, because in my experience they give your number away to dozens of companies.
That way, all these annoying companies automated systems will end up with jammed switchboards trying to call each other and hopefully the humans doing it will get suicidal and thus stop.

Have to say that is a brilliant idea especially the holiday companies.
I was happily ex-directory for 25 years and had never received a cold call, then I filled in one of First Choices questionnaires to give feedback and win a 'free holiday' (yeah right) they must have sold on my details the moment I got off the plane and the last ten years I have never really been rid of cold calls completely despite registering with TPS who i hadn't had to bother with when ex dir. Thanks a bunch First Choice/TUI.
When we used to receive spam mail through the post my husband used to either mix them up and send each others in the their pre paid envelopes or, he drew a geeky cartoon face and popped it in their envelope, bet the staff had a laugh when they opened it
I get a lot of silent calls so last week I got onto a website to report/stop these calls and registered before I realised they charged for the service. Came home one day to 4 messages on 1571. Yes, you've guessed it, from this company. Later that day I had a call from a sales rep for that company. First mistake was to address me by first name, second mistake was to ask me why I wouldn't be taking up their fabulous product. The reply I got when telling him about the 4 silent calls was "oh!" I think the penny dropped!!
