We went with Thomas Cook and to book a sea view before we went would've cost about £200 so we decided not to. We ended up with a large room which overlooked one of the pools and we were happy with this. Location wise, a sea view room would be better as they are more centrally located to the infinity pool, beach (obviously!), reception and restaurants. Not sure if sea view rooms are any bigger. The walk back to our room could be very hot and tiring although it only took a few minutes.

If you go to the hotel website (accessed via the review page where you can also read our review), you can email the hotel and ask about a sea view room - I'm fairly sure it'll be cheaper than going through your tour operator. The hotel has lots of sea view rooms so I'd be surprised if you can't get one.

I am booked to go to Sports Complex next March and am extremely concerned with some of the reviews posted here and on other sites.
I am travelling with a disabled man and was not aware when booking that the beach was 20 minute walk away. Can anybody please confirm if this is an accurate distance as there is no way he will manage that without a wheelchair. We have also been told that it is only the sports complex that can accomodate families of 3 or 4 + ??
We have also read some worrying reports regarding aircrafts noise and close vicinity to the runway !! even to the extent that the rooms vibrate and doors being blown open.
If anyone has stayed at the sports complex recently perhaps they can tell me which would be the best room numbers to ask for upon arrival.
Thats if we are still going - seriously considering re booking.
Can anyone offer me any good news to persuade me otherwise !!!

Hi Sue,i can only suggest that you E Mail the hotel or speak to your tour operator , who should help you or even contact the hotel on your behalf,
after all they are supposed to look after us !
good luck :)

thanks Phyll, am trying that route as well but Thomas Cook say they have not had any reports of bad noise but brochure says "slight airplane noise occassionaly" - YEAH RIGHT !!
Looking into changing to Hurghada but the admin costs are probably
gonna come to more that the deposit.

Hi Sue . You may find it more benefical to email the concorde and explain the situation as well as contacting thomas cook. you never know they may put you in the main hotel, im sure they would be very understanding. we stayed at the Hilton sharks bay this year which is next door and i have to say we were never bothered by aircraft noise which is quite surprising given that most of sharm is never more than about 15 mins from the airport. you heard the occasional plane go over but were certainly never bothered by it. they must take off and land from the other direction :?

ps.another thought - was the sports complex cheaper to book than the main hotel . if so the hotel i am sure would upgrade you to the hotel if you wanted to part with more cash :( you could do this direct with them , it may not cost much. just a thought if you were gonna have to pay ammendment fees anyway.

Hi sue
we stayed at the front part of the concorde sea view room in march this year. We found the sports side much nicer around the pool quieter and more relaxed. We took the hotel bus (short drive) or walkd over every day used the sports side allday meals etc. then we used the front part of concorde in the evening. Yes you can hear planes but certainly not enough to spoil your holiday. To be honest ther was buliding work noise on the sea view side and that was a lot more disturbing. I would go back to the concorde tomorrow but i would book for sports side and visit the sea side in the evening for a change of scenery. We have been to egypt three times and were not disapointed by this hotel i would also recommend the hilton in sharks bay which is just next door

Hi everyone, thanks ever so much for your replies.
We have cancelled our stay at the Concorde and Thomas Cook have agreed to not charge us any admin and will transfer our deposit to whatever holiday we like - but this is proving harder than we think. Lot of places booked up for Easter. Thinking about trying to Sunrise Royal Makadi but we will see ........
In the latest issue of the Thomas Cook brochure the Concorde El Salam and the Concord Sports is shown as two different buildings. Whilst the brochure says the sports is set back by 200m this just doesnt add up to other reviews i had looked at. One lady said that they arrived at the Salam then got put back on the bus and had a 20 minute ride to the sports side !! The hotel also confirmed to me that the rooms were a lot smaller and it is a 15 minute walk to the beach. My husband has MS so this is just a no go for us. New brochure also says that you are not allowed to use the evening buffet at the main building. The brochure that we booked on was misleading, which Thomas Cook have agreed with so ........ guess i will be looking at brochures all day again today !! Thank you all again x

We stayed at this hotel in May this year and had an excellent time, so much so that we have booked to go back again on the 8th October, 2006. Today I have been contacted by the tour operators to advise that they have been given information that there are building works taking place at the hotel next door!!!!!

When we was there in May we did notice that they were building a new hotel next to the Hilton Sharks Bay, can anyone advise if this is the same building works or is the Hilton having some building works done.

We stayed in the Main hotel, near to the aquagym pool, however was contemplating upgrading to a seaview room but don't want to do this if that is near to where the building works is taking place.

Can anyone help!!!

p.s. wont be cancelling our holiday, it's just so I can e-mail the hotel in advance to try and organise which room/part of the hotel we are staying in.

sutty, did they say when the works are starting - we are flying out there on the 21st of this month and nobody has contacted us from Thomas Cook.

I may give Thomas Cook a ring and find out the situation, I emailed the Hotel months ago about a room upgrade but got no reponse from them.

Spoke to TC, the builiding works are extensive groundworks for new hotel next door and the creation of a beach (water disturbance?) minimal disturbance around pool area and restaurants.

We have been offered the chance to move with free admin charges and are doing so.

They have posted us a letter today but Holiday-truth beat them to it!

Hope this is not too late to help. We have stayed at the concorde twice last year and had a wonderful time. With regard to your question it is a good 10 minute walk down to the beach from the sports complex but you can get a little bus from sports to main and back again. All free just call lobby to arrange time. As for the noise, although we stayed both times at the main hotel, we used the pool at the sports a few times and although it is closer to the airport, it is not a problem. We upgraded both times to a sea view room which makes it a certainty you are at the main hotel. Did this with an e mail to the hotel and paid when we arrived. Concorde staff very helpful. Hope this helps. Del

hi ya we are goin there in may for the first time.
any advise on the hotel?
im a little concerned about my mom as she isnt great at walking and climbing steps, do you think she will be ok there? i was going to ask for a ground level apartment for them and one close to the main building, do you think this will be ok? also the swimming pools look fantastic but how do u get into them? mom cant climb down the metal steps, have they got a slope in or is there the steps built in (sorry cant think what you would call them)
i know this is off topic but thought it would be handy as you have stayed there before?
many thanks

im not too sure about the concorde because iv not stayed there and hopefully someone will answer who has but the hilton next door has a far slope to walk back from the beach. obviously im sure she will be fine going down but yes i would certainly e mail the hotel rather than the T/O before you go and explain the situation and make your request. the egyptians are very helpful and im sure if they can they will help.

Hi, I have stayed at this hotel twice during 2006 and it is fantastic. Re the slopes, you would be better asking for a room near to the aqua pool (this is level and there are graduated steps into the pool.

Unfortunately the main pool nearest to the beach does not have access other than the metal steps at the side of the pool, so your mum would struggle to get into this one.

There is a slope from the main building down to the beach but there are handrails where the steepest areas are. Most of the buildings are 2 floors high so would recommend that you ask for a ground floor room.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ask, if you search the internet you can easily find the email address for the hotel and they are very quick to reply.
