loups, is it not possible to send your other half into the appartment, on a search and distroy mission before you enter.after the tenerife flying cockroach incident of 93 thats my job

Tokmac

I'm always scared that if I was to use anything like that it would
1. attract them (some of them attract them to trap them, don't they :omg ) or
2. leave me to find dead bodies :yikes

Thank goodness I have never come across any in my actual hotel or apartment.

Thats all I really ask for in a holiday a clean bug free room or apartment very near the beach 8) .

I know where I'm going will be nice.
5 days now :fly

 Hi all, me and family fly to Turkey on Thursday, just had the fright of my life reading through this thread. My biggest and worst and I cant exaggerate any more than that it borders on phobia and Im really pathetic but its the wasps. They frighten me to death so my question is, when in the year are they the most aggresive I hope beggining May isnt one of them times. Told my hubby going to have to cancel hol now (only kidding) but im that bad about them.

Like Ellie-Meg we also found the worst time to be October. We have been in May, and I don't remember any problems then. A tip we picked up was to burn coffee in an old saucer, it is supposed to keep them away. Although I'm sure you will be fine this time of year. Have a good time!

Yeah sent hubby in to apartment first - nothing, have not seen a single bug on my entire week there, had flying ants on the beach, no wasps cockroaches or anything absolutely fine, the wasps apparently are more inclined to appear in July/August according to people out there, but a bug free happy holiday

We saw 2 cockroaches on our two week hol, not bad at all as none were in our hotel

We stopped & had a drink at a restaurent/bar in Fetiyhe old town, & my husband said something bit his leg :omg We looked under the table & saw a small cockroach on it's back, could it have been the cockroach or was that just a coincidence :?:

The other one was in Dalaman airport on the way home, it was :swear huge :yikes

We had the seaview roms in the olu Deniz resort hotel, my sister had a gecko type thing in her room one night :yikes I know they keep the bugs down. When they opened the door it ran into the bathroom & disapeared, the ONLY place it could have gone then is down the drain in the floor & the cover was tilted to one side.

Which leads me to my last point, when we said about putting plugs in overnight to stop anything coming up, what about floor drains, I forgot about them :whoops

Anyway had a great holiday, did notice a few bees/wasps but it is an area famous for it honey, they were never a problem. I probably only noticed them because of ths thread.

There did seem to be rather a lot of flies on the lagoon beach, especially in the morning, again these didn't bother me, but drove my husband & brother-in-law mad

hello,

me and my girlfriend booked a flight to istanbul but soon after i came across the warning about terrorism and a list of 20 terrorist attacks over the last ten months in istanbul alone, bombs going off anywhere from a mosque to a supermarket. the pkk (kurdish seperatists) have also warned against travelling to turkey saying they will target tourists to further their interests. i know this is about bugs and not bombs but you all seem to know turkey quite well and im really worried.

we have spoken to a couple of people who have been to turkey that said not to worry and just go and i know its unlikely to happen but i couldnt bear anything to happen to my girlfriend. we will lose 150 pounds if we cancel but this is nothing compared to our lives. london has been bombed but only once and as i said, these attacks seem frequent even though there has been little or no coverage in our media...i suppose if you havent experienced it yourself it might feel safe....but im wondering whether its kept out of the media intentionally to help turkey since its an important ally of western govts and its economy relies heavily upon tourism.....i would appreciate any opinions and advice, :shrug thankyou

p.s. are these scorpions ones which can poison you and how annoying are the flys do they land on your face and get away from me argh gangs around your head that wont leave you alone kind of ones?

THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION ONLY, but I don't see the Turkish tourist areas as a big risk, no more so than the UK.

I did fancy Sharm, but the last bomb has put me off, I think thats 3 big ones in three years in the Red Sea area ( :?: )

The flies didn't annoy me to much, but I switch off. They annoyed my husband

There are also security risks in Spain by Basque ( :?: ) seperatists. I think there are risks all over now. But if you really are worried could you change it for Greece or Malta or Cyprus, I don't think they have problems, I could be wrong :?

Wherever you decide to go, enjoy yourself.
Kim
PS I think your chances or meeting a scorpion big enough to give you a dangerous sting, which actually stings you is miniscule :)
