We've spent such a great time in Kaprije, it's a lovely and peaceful island, just the place we needed to escape from our everyday running. I hope the island will not be ruined by the torrent of turists (that sounds a bit stupid as we're just the same :-)) and can remain just like that for very long. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer, it's quite hard to get down to work this morning. Our hosts from the Apartments Mediterraneo (http://kaprije.cjb.net) were extremely friendly and helpful.

We are quite interested in booking for Crotia for May 06, which resort would be the best place to go with 2 children aged 6 and 8yrs. Also what would the weather be like mid May.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Komarna! - I am not impartial though since I own some property in Komarna.
Anyway, it is a great place for children and my grand children (four - from 4 to 11 years) is happy there every year - and so are the parents.
It is a very safe place because there are not many tourists and enough locals to make sure that there is always some adult eyes watching you children.

The weather in May is lovely - at least when you come from the North like I do (Denmark). It is like summer to us

Hi,

Hope you have lovely weather. I'm going a few days later than you but am optimistic because the current 5-day forecasts (for Dubrovnik) look wonderful. The north seems to be a bit cooler though.

Well I'll be in Cavtat from the 25th - can't wait :D

Hı Hugo,

Just wondering what Croatia is like in winter as to skiing and winter sports. I visited Zagreb years ago but only for the weekend and never skied - plenty of snow about though. Was about February time.

Do you know the average cost for 3 star B&b and ski-lift pass? Cost of average meal, drinks etc? Do many Brits go there?

Sorry to bombard you with questions but would love to know as I have always fancied a winter hol there.

Thanks in advance,

zambuca

Returned on Sunday from my first trip to Croatia and thought you might like to share some of my my photographs.

http://www.worldisround.com/articles/223336/index.html

We stayed in an apartment in Villa Markoc in Cavtat. I found the apartment after searching through the many to be found on http://www.dubrovnik-online.com and paid 280 euros for the week. The deposit was paid by Western Union Money Transfer, which I was a bit concerned about to start with. As they only wanted a 50 euro deposit, the rest to be paid on arrival, I decided to chance it and it all worked just fine. The owner, Anita was very friendly and helpful, telling us to help ourselves to the sweet juicy grapes growing in the garden and even giving us a lift back to the airport on departure. We later found that most of the apartments here are also offered through Tapestry Holidays.

Cavtat is a lovely small resort with a pretty palm tree lined harbour, backed by restaurants and cafe-bars. As it is only 3 miles from the airport, it was realy convenient for us. We got direct flights from Manchester, that took under 3 hours and were operated by GB Airways, a subsidiary of BA., that seems to go to mainly holiday destinations. The flight was great, on time, lots of legroom and even a decent meal.

We hired a car for 4 days, which gave us a chance to do a little exploring. As we were only there for a week, we didn't bother driving into Montenegro or Bosnia, though it would not have been a problem with the hire car. Car hire isn't particularly cheap, at about £31 per day, for a tiny and rather battered group A Fiat Seicento, though petrol is cheaper than the UK (that's not hard!). Driving isn't particularly fast, so to go much further than we did, it would have been better to fly-drive rather than stay in one base.

All in all a most enjoyable week and one I would recommend.
