Sorry if this has already been asked.....but I cant seem to find anything on this subject.
We go on our cruise in two weeks time. As three people from my place of work have now been dignosed with Swine Flu, I was reading the NHS and WHO webpages for guidance.
On there it tells you to avoid crowded rooms and mass gatherings.....ERRRRR how can we do that on a cruise?
Are any extra precautions being taken on the ships does anybody know? I know there is a school of thought that says you can get it absolutely anywhere....BUT we all know how quickly virus' spread on board
LOL anyway thats if I even get there as I have heard that Corfu airport (and many others no doubt) have Thermal imaging cameras at passport control as soon as you enter the airport. Apparently anyone with a temperature is being hospitalised......oh dear, if one of my party should have a slight temp they would miss the boat
they also had thermal imaging software at some of the ports in the terminals.
i wouldnt worry about it too much, as they are still only precautions!!
hope this helps
enjoy your cruise
oooh so many questions I know....but TBh I find travelling stressful enough as it is...without the added worry of will they/wont they let me thru passport control if I am having a hot flush
as for on board the ship, any symptoms of virus are reported to the medical centre and an onboard doctor will contact you and give you further advice and / or treatment.
Flu is around all year, cruise ships work all year round, it's never been an issue before.
If you do get it you'll be confined to your cabin - get a good level of insurance cover and should you be confined you will be able to claim. Good insurance will also provide a cash sum to go towards paying for another holiday when you are well again. Unfortunately cover offered by travel agents, tour operators and cruise companies rarely offers cover as good as this and you need to go through an insurance company- check your policy documents.
If you get it, you get it. Until you do don't worry about it!
I felt I has asked a valid question as the NHS and the world health organisation (hardly drama seekers) are advising to avoid mass gatherings and crowded rooms. (see my first post).
Your reply was maybe a little harsh, when I was seeking advice from a hopefully a passenger who has possibly recently returned and can advise what, if any measures are being taken.
and - given the seriousness of the virus, it is only understandable that there should be some clarity between swine flu and other virus's - as for some (myself included) i am still unclear of the actual differences, so seeking a medical professional's advice would put my mind at ease, whether it be a doctor, nurse, NHS Direct or some other qualified medical person.
